LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears and her husband, Sam Asghari, have reportedly split after being married for a year. Sources confirmed to People that couple, who seemed inseperable, were no longer together. 

Asghari reportedly filed for divorce on Wednesday, August 16, mere hours after news broke that the couple were calling it quits.

Asghari reportedly cited "irreconcilable differences" and sought spousal support from the singer as well as legal fees, according to TMZ. He specified the separation date as July 28, per ET.

Asghari, 29, and Spears, 41, have reportedly been living apart for a while, which has fueled rumors that their relationship was in trouble. Sources told TMZ, the couple divorced because of "a nuclear argument that involve[d] allegations of cheating."

Insiders reportedly said that Asghari had confronted the 'Toxic' singer, alleging she had been unfaithful to him.

The news about Spears and Asghari's divorce has invited a number of responses. While there is a wave of support for the singer, others on the internet are also backing Asghari.

Several of Spears' followers claimed Asghari was only in it for the money and called him a "gold digger."

"I always knew sam was a gold digger & wanted fame. He’s literally asking for spousal support! #BritneySpears," a fan wrote.

However, other social media users, denied the accusations by tweeting in support of Asghari. Some even analyzed Spears' previous relationship and claimed that she allegedly "cheated on Justin Timberlake and even co-wrote a song to confirm it."

A person wrote on X, "Britney Spears *allegedly* cheated on her husband and all of her fans are defending her and saying she would ever cheat. Acting surprised like this man didn’t expose her cheating ways when I was still a child…."

Another said, "Right ? At least he knew." A third claimed, "Britney Spears Splits with Husband - Sam confronted Britney over rumors she stepped out on him. @britneyspears I'm sorry, you CHEATED on this. WTF I mean ... I hope you had a prenup."

"Britney spears apparently cheated but according to her fans that's OK," noted another user.
