The ultimate rift between Princess Diana and her mother Frances Shand Kydd was created after the latter called her daughter a "whore" for dating Muslim men including Dodi Fayed and Hasnat Khan.

Former royal butler Paul Burrell made the shocking claim while being interviewed for the new Smithsonian Channel documentary on Diana called 'Princess Diana's Wicked Stepmother' that shed a light on the impact that her stepmother Countess Raine Spencer had on the People's Princess.

The documentary also revealed some never-before-heard details about Diana's relationship with her biological mother Frances that left the audience in shock.

Burrell, 61, who served as a footman to Queen Elizabeth II before working for Diana in 1987 until her death told Fox News that he was privy to the last conversation that Diana had with Frances which left her emotionally scarred.

Following the Paris car crash in 1997, which killed Diana and Dodi, Frances reportedly regretted treating her daughter as harshly as she did (Getty Images)

“I was in my little pantry underneath the main staircase of Kensington Palace and I could hear this sobbing coming out of [Diana’s] room,” claimed Paul. “Then she shouted, ‘Paul, please come. Come quick.’ So I ran up the staircase, and I found the princess crumpled in the middle of her room with the telephone to her ear, and she beckoned me to come closer. I could hear what her mother was saying. She said, ‘Listen. Listen to what mummy’s saying.’"

“Mrs. Shand Kydd had had a few to drink that night. She was berating the princess and then calling her a whore. She said, ‘That’s what you are. I’ve raised a whore, whoring around town with Muslim men. You should be ashamed of yourself.’ Diana was sobbing, saying ‘Mummy, please don’t say those words to me. Please don’t call me those names.’ She begged her. She kept begging her not to say it," he added.

When her mother did not heed her request and kept demeaning her on the phone, Paul said that Diana told her that she was never going to speak to Frances and she kept that promise till her dying day.

He added that, following the Paris car crash in 1997, which killed Diana and Dodi, Frances regretted treating her daughter as harshly as she did.

“Her mother had to live with that guilt after Diana’s death,” said Paul. “She came to me and said, ‘Surely I’ll be forgiven now, won’t I?’ I said, ‘Mrs. Shand Kydd, I can’t give you absolution. I’m not the right person to come to. I couldn’t.”
