Derek Chauvin getting convicted guilty of all three counts (ABC)

As soon as the verdict for the Derek Chauvin trial was announced on April 20, social media broke into celebrations. The former Minneapolis cop was found guilty on all three counts: second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. This comes after nationwide protests that ensued following the death of George Floyd during an arrest procedure, where Chauvin kneeled on his neck for over nine minutes. Social media, however, found it even more exciting when Judge Peter Cahill revoked Chauvin's bail immediately after announcing him guilty on all charges. So what happens next for Chauvin?

In the videos that have surfaced online from Chauvin's trial, the former cop can be seen handcuffed and walked away by an officer of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office immediately after Cahill announced 'bail revoked'. This means Chauvin is going straight to prison, instead of waiting out this period until sentencing in the comforts of his home. This comes after the 12-person jury on Chauvin's trial deliberated for two full days to reach the decision.

What happens in the next 8 weeks?

According to a spokesperson for the Minnesota Department of Corrections, Chauvin is being held at the Minnesota Correctional Facility at Oak Park Heights. As he waits out his sentencing which is due in eight weeks, the first week will go in the court looking at written arguments made by Chauvin, reports The Shade Room via an Instagram post. "The court will then issue factual findings on these arguments," reports the outlet, adding that they will order a 'pre-sentencing investigation' report that will return in four weeks. In six weeks' time, the court will hold a briefing to discuss the findings of the report, the outlet adds. Then, in two weeks' time, will be the much-awaited sentencing.

The outlet also adds the expected sentences Chauvin would be granted for each conviction: 40 years for second-degree murder, 25 years for third-degree murder, and either 10 years or $20,000 for second-degree manslaughter. The prospect of this has become a massive celebration with President Joe Biden addressing with Vice President Kama Harris, in a speech from the White House. Immediately after that, he personally called Floyd's family to say "we're all so relieved." Seeking to comfort Floyd's daughter Gianna, who had shown incredible spirit throughout this struggle for justice, Biden assured her "Daddy did change the world."

Twitter celebrates 'Bail revoked!'

In the wake of this momentous verdict in Minnesota, social media also has celebrated how swiftly Cahill's 'bail revoked' announcement followed the verdict. The term trended as a hashtag on Twitter for a significant amount of time, along with the tags 'THANK YOU GOD' and 'GUILTY'. One user celebrated "Justice has been served!!! #bailrevoked and everything #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd." Another wrote "And bail revoked. Go to jail Go directly to jail do not pass go do not collect 200 dollars."

Others discussed Chauvin's entire body language as the verdict was announced. One user noted "Is anyone else bothered by his super shifty eyes? His incessant note-taking during the entire trial? His quick, almost salute-like head nod after the judge revoked bail and sent him to jail? Dude is a sociopath." And some celebrated "ACAB!!! This one got what he deserves. He’s a murderer. And when we got that verdict, it was proven! Seeing him be handcuffed and bail revoked made so many people so damn happy!" Some even celebrated "Another positive, his divorce was denied because the judge felt that he and his wife were trying to commit fraud."
