Derek Chauvin's mom Carolyn Pawlenty slammed for saying he's a 'good' man

Addressing the courtroom on Friday, Chauvin offered his condolences to the Floyd family and said, "At this time due to some additional legal matters at hand I'm not able to give a full statement at this time, but very briefly though I want to send my condolences to the Floyd family." He added, "There's going to be some other information in the future that would be of interest and I hope things will give you some peace of mind."

'He couldn't even look them in the eye'

The internet took a dig at Chauvin's 'formal apology' to the Floyd family. One user commented, "I want to give my condolences to the Floyd family.” He couldn’t even look them in the eye." Another sarcastically wrote, "Derek Chauvin: “I do want to give my condolences to the Floyd family” Hmm I wonder what he could have done to prevent their grief." One user tweeted, "Finally given the opportunity to speak, Chauvin gave his “condolences” (if you can call it that) to the Floyd family and said there’s going to be more information that comes out in the future that hopefully gives them peace of mind. What???"

Another commented, "Derek Chauvin offered the Floyd family his "condolences" rather than an apology for murdering George Floyd-that says it all." One tweet read, "The murdering cop just gave his fucking condolences to the family and it was the most hollow words I've ever heard in my entire life and he should actually get more time just for that."
