'Deputy' Episode 2 spoilers tease Bill facing risk of getting ousted as interim sheriff
In last week's premiere of 'Deputy', Fox's new cop drama, we saw Bill Hollister (Stephen Dorff) reluctantly accept the position of stand-in LA County Sheriff in the wake of his predecessor's sudden death. But even as he went about fighting crime and earning a few injuries along the way to protect the innocents and immigrants, clearly his war with evil is not over yet as things twist and turn even further to put his position at stake.
The official synopsis of the upcoming second episode titled '10-8 Outlaws' airing this January 9 reveals: "Struggling to come to terms with the new responsibilities of his role as sheriff, Bill refuses to stay out of the field when a criminal to whom he is personally connected resurfaces; two new deputies come into the picture."
While not at all very telling, it does bring to mind that right at the end of the very first episode, Bill's new security detail Brianna, who has been pretty much shadowing him ever since we were introduced to the show, does remind him that there are only a week and few more days, specifically 10 days, to the election where his stint as the interim sheriff might come to an end.
Bill's promotion happened because of a hundred-year rule book their Sheriff's department swears by, which states in case of sudden death, the next most senior person in the job gets to fill in the position until a proper election can be held. However, in the very first episode, we have seen that the 'lawman' doesn't exactly adhere to the rules mandated by his department.
He's a man's man who doesn't mind taking risks and is all about going the extra mile and doing whatever necessary to get the job done, thus earning a name in the not-so-good books of his superiors in the department. Even though in response to Brianna's reminder Bill very sternly says: "Well, buckle up. We’re just getting started," there's no overlooking the fact that two more deputies are arriving in town who could pose a threat to Bill's position as the interim sheriff.
As for the reemergence of the old nemesis that Bill is set to encounter in the upcoming episode, once can only expect the worst. He does not give a damn about what anybody thinks or opines about the way he does his job, as was clear from the nonchalant way he went about destroying thousands of dollars worth of property to bust a bunch of crooks running away from the police. No prizes for guessing what he could do to this old arch-nemesis set to make a return to Bill's life. But if things get too violent, there's always his wife Paula (Yara Martinez), the chief trauma surgeon, to patch him up again!
'Deputy' airs on Thursdays at 9/8c, only on Fox.
