Demi Lovato has been slammed on the Internet after they sang ‘Skyscraper’ to a ghost who was struggling with the trauma of sexism in the afterlife. The 29-year-old singer, who identifies as non-binary, executed their latest stint on their Peacock TV show, ‘Unidentified With Demi Lovato’.

Lovato visited an abandoned Arizona town — Vulture City — a ghost town located at the site of the defunct Vulture Mine in Maricopa County, with pal Matthew Scott and paranormal investigator Chris Smith. There the trio went inside a ruined brothel and called 'Carmen' — “a ghost with distinctly feminist leanings and a lingering grudge against men after being mistreated by the opposite sex in life,” as reported by The Daily Mail.

Lovato, along with Scott and Smith, tried to contact the spirit using EMF — an instrument apparently used to speak with otherworldly beings. While the ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ singer asked the ghost, “Have you seen anything like ETs here, or UFOs? Star people?” the detector suddenly fell silent. Lovato then understood that Carmen might not be comfortable with their friends, so they said, “Did you not want to say anything else because the boys were in here?”

After that, sharp response from the detector was heard and Lovato stated, “I think... Oh, I get that a lot. She has trauma. That's why she doesn't like men. I have trauma, too, so I feel you and I get it.” As Scott and Smith left the room, Lovato sang their 2011 single, ‘Skyscraper’, the lyrics of which are “You can take everything I have/ You can break everything I am/ Like I'm made of glass/ Like I'm made of paper/ Go on and try to tear me down/ I will be rising from the ground/ Like a skyscraper/ Like a skyscraper.” As the song ended, three short bursts were then made by the instrument, and Lovato added, “That's the coolest standing ovation I've ever had.”

Meanwhile, it seems Lovato’s actions have not been taken in good spirit by the people online. A user tweeted, “I'm embarrassed for her...not really, but definitely worthy of embarrassment.” The second one wrote, “Someone needs her meds adjusted.” “The attention-seeking is next level with this chick” the third user added. A tweet read, “Someone give her a low fat cupcake.” Another added, “I hope this is for attention and people aren’t this mad.”

The video of the extraordinary event shared on YouTube also attracted massive attention. A person commented below the video, “Imagine being a demonic ghost minding your own business then suddenly a non binary person labeled you a female star person that has trauma with men then proceeds to sing you skyscraper.” Another one wrote, “This is actually just sad to see demi deep in psychosis and then people enabling their delusions by giving them an alien show..... cmonnn that's the worst thing to do to someone with psychosis.” “Watching this just makes me feel sorry for Demi, she's basically reflecting her character to "the alien" and it just shows me she's depressed. Hope she moves on with whatever she's dealing with someday,” a comment read.
