Dean McDermott opens up on his marriage with Tori Spelling, says she wanted him 'to be happy and healthy'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dean McDermott disclosed that his bad temper fuelled by alcohol abuse put the final nail in his marriage to Tori Spelling. The former 'Chopped Canada' host, who was in rehab for the entire summer and lives in a sober home in Woodland Hills, California, alongside eight other men, is now hoping to settle things with his family.
“All Tori’s ever done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy and I inflicted a lot of damage and pain on that woman,” he told Daily Mail in an interview published Wednesday, November 15.
Dean McDermott admits to drinking every night of the week
The 56-year-old confessed to drinking a fifth of tequila every night of the week and taking “handful of narcos [prescription meds]” by himself while his now-estranged wife and children were “petrified” in other rooms.
"Alcohol made me feel good enough. I started feeling good enough until it got to a point where it didn’t – it ended up in isolation,” he admitted, adding that he and Spelling slept in separate bedrooms since 2017.
“That’s what it led to and that’s what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori. I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling," he said.
McDermott, who played the role of Constable Renfield Turnbull on the TV series 'Due South', hit rock bottom in June, and Spelling told him to go to treatment.
“And she helped find Harmony Place and got me in here,” Dean revealed, noting that he spent 40 days at the facility.
Dean McDermott has not seen his children since spring
McDermott admitted he has not seen the 'Beverly Hills, 90210' alum or his children since the spring when they moved out of their rental home because of a mold issue, but he has begun texting with Spelling, 50, with hopes of seeing his “beautiful” family soon.

“It’s going to be living the rest of my life making amends because I took something that was really beautiful and I just tore it down year after year, day after day,” he told the outlet.
McDermott shares Liam, 16, Stella, 15, Hattie, 12, Finn, 11, and Beau, six, with Spelling.
“Life happens. It’s tough having kids. It’s tough living in this town, tough, having financial problems,” he said, adding “It’s just really tough. I’m not making excuses. I certainly had my hand in it in the dissolution of the relationship. But yeah, hasn’t been easy. Nothing in life is easy.”

Even though McDermott has moved on with girlfriend Lily Calo, 33, he has no regrets about the life he built with the 'True Tori' alum.
“It was a total fairytale. I mean, it was a beautiful love story. Love at first sight and getting married in the most beautiful way possible,” he recalled of their Fiji wedding, adding “It was a dream come true.”
In June, McDermott announced that he and Spelling were calling it quits on their 17-year marriage. Neither of them have officially filed for divorce till now.
