De Gea's girlfriend joins the popular WAG club, celebrates Spain's victory with a little dance
Deigo Costa’s 54th-minute goal secured Spain a victory against Iran on June 20. If Spain are to defeat already-eliminated Morocco on June 25, then they will most definitely finish in the top two of Group B.
Though Spain won the game against Iran, it was far from an easy win. Iran pushed back till the very end. In the 61st minute, it seemed as though Iran had a fighting chance with Saeid Ezatolahi's effort, which was ruled out as an offside by the video assistant referee. Spanish coach Fernando Hierro said the moment showcased that there really are no guarantees in Russia. This brings to mind De Gea's performance against Portugal. De Gea let Ronaldo's 20-yard effort right through him for Portugal's second goal just before half-time. It proved to be a costly error on his part.
“We trust him 100 per cent,” said Hierro when asked before the match if De Gea would be playing. “We have been saying for a long time he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Of course, he plays tomorrow.”
There is always room for improvement, but it looked like Manchester United’s goalkeeper De Gea’s mishap against Portugal that led to an own goal did not hinder his confidence or performance in his game against Iran. During four minutes of added time, the first attack by Iran was stopped by De Gea, a move which helped Spain stay in the lead till the end. After all that happened in the past few days it was but obvious that his girlfriend Edurne, 32, was in a celebratory mood. She took to Instagram to show off her delight and support for her man.
Rocking Spanish flags on her cheeks, the blonde posted a boomerang of herself dancing. She captioned the post: “Go Spain!” She has now officially joined the popular WAGs club that is trending this football season.
Edurne is not oblivious to the world of fame herself; she is an actress, a singer, and TV presenter. She features on the panel for Spain's Got Talent reality TV show. She initially rose to fame when she participated in the Spanish talent show, Operacion Triunfo in 2005. The show aimed to seek out Spain’s best solo singer. The music talent contest also had viewer voting. She finished in 6th place in 2006, needless to say, she was fan favorite. The blonde also represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song Amanecer. The singer is not one to hide her relationship or shy away from social media. She often shares pictures with her footballer beau De Gea. She even shared a naked selfie last year.
