Has 'Days of Our Lives' been cancelled? Entire cast of iconic soap opera released from their contracts
'Days of Our Lives' may be over for good. According to TV Line, the producers of the NBC soap opera which has run for more than 50 seasons have released the entire cast from their contracts. The soap opera is also going on an indefinite break after the end of this month. The report says that the show isn't canceled yet but the future definitely looks vague for it as NBC and Sony Pictures, the two big wigs behind the show are considering renewal of shows.
Representatives for NBC and Sony have declined to comment on the news. However, a source from Sony told the news outlet that it wasn't a part of the contract negotiations with the actors and it goes through Corday Productions, the production company for 'Days of Our Lives'. The Production company has declined to comment.
If the soap opera is renewed it will only be around March 2020, the report says but releasing the cast could mean that they wouldn't come back for the new season. “It’s actually a shrewd — if cynical — business move”, one insider said, "If Days gets picked up, [Corday] can offer the actors new contacts at a reduced rate and with a ‘take-it-or-leave’ it attitude. Worst case scenario, they lose half their cast. Best case scenario [for Corday], everyone agrees to return at a lower salary.”
Another source said that all signs show that "NBC would like to keep the show going."
Jennifer Anniston's father Jon Anniston, 86 is one of the biggest names on the show along with Kristian Alfonso, Nadia Bjorlin, Mary Beth Evans and Deidre Hall. It is currently in its 55th season on air. With the show filming eight months in advance, it has enough episodes to air till the summer of 2020, the outlet reported. Set in Salem, the show follows the lives of Horton, Brady, Kiriakis, Hernandez, and DiMera families.
