Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton), the protagonist, is transported to a parallel reality by his alternate self in Episode 1. Determined to return home, he embarks on a mission with Amanda Lucas (Alice Braga) by his side.
Despite being each other's only companions in the multiverse travel, Amanda finally part ways with Jason 1 in 'Dark Matter' Episode 7.
Why do Jason 1 and Amanda Lucas part ways in 'Dark Matter' Episode 7?
Jason 1 and Amanda have been traveling between different realities for 29 days, trying to find Jason's original world.
Trapped in this situation, Amanda is not only tired but has also realized that there's no point in accompanying Jason any further.
She envisions a beautiful reality with technological advancement where modernization isn't destroying humanity and nature. In this world, people are empathetic.
She is spellbound when she lands in a world that is close to perfection. Upon further exploring this new world, she realizes that Amanda of this world went missing two years ago.
This discovery makes her realize that she could easily claim the other Amanda's identity and start a new life in this world.
While announcing her decision to Jason 1, she mentions that while he is driven by a desire to return home, the same isn't the case with her. Things have gone awry in her reality, and she knows that she faces the risk of being killed if she returns to her world.
She also realizes that once Jason finds his way back to his reality, she will be left alone. After supporting Jason 1's mission for so long, she has finally decided to prioritize her well-being and do what's best for herself.
Jason 1 and Amanda Lucas may not ever meet again in 'Dark Matter'
Despite knowing that Jason 1 wouldn't stay with her, she offers him the choice anyway.
As Jason 1 prepares to leave, he hands her 2 magic pills, saying that she could use them if this reality doesn't work out for her.
However, we know that Amanda would never use these pills as she has made up her mind to stay in this reality forever. She has come to understand that no reality is perfect, and she will eventually have to adjust to whatever world she chooses to be in.
It is the choices we make in our lives that make things good or bad for us. Amanda and Jason have understood this mantra, which allows them to bring their adventures to an end.
In the final moments of 'Dark Matter' Episode 7, we see Jason 1 finally arriving in his reality. With the unfolding of these events, we can conclude that Amanda and Jason 1 will never meet again.
However, it would be interesting to see Jason 1 and Jason 2's face-off, leading to an exciting climax.
