Contains spoilers and speculations for 'Dark Matter'

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: 'Dark Matter', streaming on Apple TV+ has left viewers wondering with speculations and theories. The science-fiction series is based on Blake Crouch's popular novel of the same name and has succeeded in capturing the attention of viewers.

Those who have already read the book would know how things end for the protagonist, Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton). Rest of us are left pondering over the multiple possibilities for the climax.

The first two episodes of the series revolve around Jason's mysterious abduction followed by his realization that it is his alternate self who orchestrated his kidnapping. From Episode 3 onwards, he gets on a mission to locate his original reality.

With six episodes already out, Jason has still not been able to find a way back home.

Jason does realise that the box is a manifestation of mind and he has to control his subconscious thoughts to land in his desired reality. Despite knowing this, he has been failing in his mission.

What is Amanda Lucas' role in Jason Dessen's mission in 'Dark Matter'?

Accompanying Jason is Amanda Lucas (Alice Braga), a therapist who works at Velocity and had a romantic relationship with the Jason of Reality 2.

Amanda helped Jason escape from Reality 2 when she realised that he was in danger. However, she chose to escape with him fearing from Leighton Vance (Dayo Okeniyi).

Amanda has been Jason's constant companion in his multiverse adventures. He probably would have given up long ago, like Blair Caplan (Amanda Brugel), had he been alone.

The companionship is one of the reasons why Jason has been able to keep going. Moreover, it is because of Amanda that he realised that their thoughts impact the functioning of the box.

How Amanda Lucas could be the reason behind Jason Dessen's problems in 'Dark Matter'?

Despite their combined attempts, Jason and Amanda haven't been able to find his reality so far. While Jason seems to have aligned his thoughts, recalling intricate details from his reality, he somehow ends up in the wrong one every time.

This leads to a speculation that Amanda might be the reason behind his failures. We know that they both need to control their thoughts when they open the door. While we know that Jason must be thinking only about Daniela (Jennifer Connelly) and Charlie (Oakes Fegley), we don't know yet what Amanda is thinking.

Amanda is probably insecure about her future once Jason finds his way back home. She also believes that she can't return to her reality as Leighton would kill her.

A Reddit user said, "Amanda is definitely preventing them from finding Jason1 prime world. She’s fallen for him and subconsciously hopes they never find it."

Another fan, thinking on the same lines, commented on another thread, "It's Amanda, right? She's the reason Jason can't find the real Daniela and Charlie? Her subconscious is messing with the world's?"

Well, we'll have to wait a little longer to find out how Jason and Amanda's adventures pan out.
