Comedian and actor Dane Cook announced his engagement to his girlfriend of five years, Kelsi Taylor, on August 2. As per reports, he proposed to her on July 13 at York Beach, Maine — in the same spot by Cape Neddick Point, where he said he previously scattered his late mother’s ashes. 

According to People, Cook said, “I was so ready to ask her. I was completely zen about it. The evening of the proposal was incredibly beautiful, the weather was perfect, sunset was spectacular, and I was just quite simply very happy." The 50-year-old said that he had been planning the proposal for a long time and decided to do it during their trip to Maine because it holds a "special place in our hearts." He said, "When we started dating, we went there on our first trip together so to return five years later was meaningful to us. It's a place I spent much time in growing up so I have such fond memories there. After my mother passed away, she asked me and my siblings to release her at her favorite spot, the breathtaking location, at the tip of Cape Neddick Point, Nubble Lighthouse, where our vacation cottage is located. It felt like the right place." Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Taylor said, "The second he began to reach for his back pocket, my stomach flipped. I couldn't have asked for the moment to have been more perfect. All that was going through my brain was, 'Wait, is this actually happening right now? Is he proposing?' "

However, the proposal got trolled over the age difference, calling Cook a creep and a groomer. One user wrote, "Dane Cook met Kelsi Taylor when she was 15 as "friends" but started dating at 18. That's ... That's a groomer." Another said, "50 year old Dane Cook is engaged to a 23 year old he met when she was 15 and started dating when she was 18 is definitely disgusting. He’s a groomer. Call it what it is." One more wrote, "Dane Cook. The least funny comedian ever and a creep. When they started dating she wasn't even old enough to go see his shows. Of course, not seeing his terrible comedy is probably the only way they worked out."

Who is Kelsi Taylor?

Taylor is a certified pilates/TRX instructor, as per her Instagram bio. She has a fitness membership with Patreon where fans can pay $8/month to get full access to Kelsi’s workout videos, according to Hollywood Life. Taylor is also a certified food therapist and nutritionist. Not just that, she is also a singer and has released one EP, 2018’s 'Fear of Yourself', which features four songs. She came out with another single in 2019 called 'Fall in Love'. In May 2022, Taylor shared a video of herself performing a cover of Lauren Daigle’s song 'Love Like This'.

Criticism of age difference

Cook and Taylor first met during a game night hosted by the former. They were initially good friends and eventually fell in love. However, the couple’s age gap has always been questioned and criticized by fans. Cook, who has never been married before, addressed this during a 2019 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He said, “My girlfriend and I, we get a lot of crap from people because we have an age difference. And here’s the thing: I love her. She’s the kindest, sweetest, just my favorite, my best friend."
