'DWTS' pro Cheryl Burke to divorce Matthew Lawrence after nearly 3 years of marriage
The 'Dancing With The Stars' pro-dancer, 37, filed for divorce from the 'Boy Meets World' alum, 42, after nearly three years of marriage. Cheryl Burke cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split in her divorce documents submitted to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on February 18, 2022. Cheryl and Matthew Lawrence tied the knot in 2019.
The two-time champion on the ABC dance competition series apparently had been separated a month prior as the court documents reveal that she listed January 7 as the date of separation. According to the documents, the 37-year-old requested the court to terminate spousal support, citing a prenuptial agreement signed on May 20, 2019, just days before their nuptials. The couple have no children together.

Cheryl and Matthew first met in 2006 on the sets of 'Dancing With The Stars' when the actor's older brother, Joey Lawrence was a contestant on the dance competition series. The pair shortly began dating in February 2007 and they broke up the following year. Nine years later, the two reconnected and rekindled their romance in 2017. Matthew proposed to Cheryl in May 2018 at the Montage Laguna Beach and the following year on May 23, the pair tied the knot at the Fairmont Grand del Mar in San Diego, California.
"There was an attraction right away. But we were both really young," Cheryl previously said in a 2019 interview with People. Matthew talking about the wedding said, "The wedding was a surreal high" before adding, "I feel like the most blessed man on the planet." Cheryl added, "It's bittersweet, because I'm really sad that it's over. But at the same time, it's calming. I feel like this is exactly what needed to happen for us."
Back in 2020, Cheryl, who suffers from tendinitis, credited Matthew as her "rock" in her sobriety journey in an interview with Good Morning America. Cheryl said, "I don't know where I would be without him. It's important for me to also surround myself with people that have the same values. She further said, "I noticed that my group of friends have changed since back in my partying and drinking days to now. I have a lot less friends but a lot more meaningful friends."
Cheryl gushed about her relationship with the 42-year-old actor in a YouTube video posted in 2020. She said, "I honestly think at the time when we first dated, I didn't clearly love myself enough to think that I deserved to be with someone who was actually nice to me." She also added how the 'Mrs. Doubtfire' star was complete opposite of everything bad about her past relationships and how she is so grateful and happy that the universe really brought him back into her life when she was ready.
