Dan Rather says 'put a mask on it' with Beyonce reference, Internet calls it one of the few highlights of 2020
Dan Rather, one of the ‘Big Three’ nightly news anchors in the country, who graced television screens every evening for 24 years to offer the audience their daily dosage of information, is now being heaped with praise for his latest witty tweet which has left the internet users in splits.
Although the number of deaths from the ongoing coronavirus is surging with each passing day, a significant number of people seem to be against the idea of covering their faces with masks. Commenting on this, Rather tweeted on Thursday, July 2, “Defeating this virus can be done. It will require leaders who listen to the science, are honest, promote a shared sense of sacrifice, and have humility. Sadly, we are being undermined by far too much ignorance, passing the buck, dishonesty, fecklessness, and selfishness.”
Responding to Texas Government issuing a nearly statewide mask mandate, Rather wrote, “I hope we are finally getting to a point where mask-wearing is no longer 'political.' I also am thinking of all the lives that could have been saved if we got here earlier.” In another tweet that followed, he used a rather witty approach to bring awareness to those who aren’t willing to wear masks saying, “Cause if you like it, then you shoulda put a mask on it”, using Beyonce’s hit song ‘Single Ladies’.
Rather soon started to trend on Twitter as his witty tweet garnered an unimaginable amount of attention, with his followers raving about his brilliant sense of humor. As Twitter is lately swamped with the cancel culture and similar trends, Internet users have thanked Rather for offering light-hearted entertainment with his latest tweet. And some of the Twitter users, referring to the happenings of 2020, have noted that Rather’s tweet is one of the best things that could have happened to them.
