Hip Hop producer Damon Dash arrested for owing more than $400,000 in child support
Hip hop mogul Damon Dash was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, having been accused of owing more than $400,000 in child support. According to reports, however, he was able to walk free shortly after the bust.
Per Page Six, Dash was led into Bronx Family Court in cuffs after two felony warrants were issued for his arrest. The sheriff’s office said the arrest warrants were issued in relation to the $404,000 in child support Dash owed to his ex-wife Rachel Roy, with whom he has two daughters, and Cindy Morales, with whom he has a son out of wedlock.
“Ain’t no money problems,” said Dash, addressing a small crowd of fans gathered outside the court. “I went to turn myself in with money! I already paid it! And I still walked it with cuffs. No more warrants. Everything is clear.”
Dash’s financial situation has not been well for some time. According to Hip Hop News, he had asked a judge to end his child support payments owing to the fact that he wasn’t making any money.
Page Six further revealed that as per a filing in Manhattan federal court last week, Dash said his personal income was “virtually nonexistent”. He had claimed his revenue stream was payments from ‘Empire’ creator Lee Daniels who owed him $2 million.
Dash, who had formerly served as rap star Jay-Z's manager, started a record label called Roc-A-Fella with Jay-Z and Kareem "Biggs" Burke in 1995. Apart from being a record producer, Dash is also a film producer, director, and actor.
