Harry is 'totally useless' for not preparing Meghan Markle for life as a royal, says Fox News' Dagen McDowell
It is the interview that rocked the world and has inspired memes about the feud between the royal family and Meghan Markle. One of the things the Duchess of Sussex told Oprah Winfrey is that she was not ready for royal life. For instance, she had no idea that one would have to curtsy in real life when meeting certain senior members of the royal family. Prince Harry had to teach her quickly what to do the first time she met the Queen.
She also mentioned how no one had helped her prepare for the live broadcast of her wedding ceremony to Prince Harry. Especially the part where the bride and the groom would sing the British national anthem. She had explained how she looked up the hymns online and learned it the night before. After she shared the difficulties she had, many are asking why Harry did not adequately prepare Meghan Markle for life as a royal that is heavily guided by traditional and sometimes archaic protocols.
Fox News analyst Dagen McDowell accused the Duke of being "totally useless" while speaking as a panelist on the channel. She said, “You have to judge this whole interview in its entirety and there are big chunks of it that are not credible. That Meghan Markle didn’t know who Prince Harry was and didn’t Google him. OK! That she didn’t know she had to curtsy in front of the Queen and she found out in the car going over there to meet her. That she didn’t think she had to do it in private."
She also added, "That doesn’t smell right. And that she learned to curtsy right before she went in to meet the Queen. That she had no knowledge of the history of this family or even the protocols." McDowell also asked why Prince Harry would not prepare Markle about what she was signing up for considering what his mother Princess Diana went through.
She asked, "What’s more preposterous is that Prince Harry did not prepare her for any of this given what his mother went through and how she was treated. Why would he ever, why wouldn’t he school her on what was in store..." She added that "Prince Harry comes across like a flashlight with no batteries in it. Totally useless."
Meghan Markle and Harry, in their own words, did not receive any support and that was the main reason why they stepped back from being senior royals. But many royal commentators have said they are lying. Recently, royal insiders were also quoted in media reports as saying that the palace had never cut Harry off financially.
Following all the backlash and debate around the interview, the palace also released a statement that said, "The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."
