THE BRONX, NEW YORK CITY: A Bronx woman has been charged with murdering her infant son and toddler stepson, however, her boyfriend asserts that she is "a good mother" and that he has forgiven her as she was "possessed." Columbus Canada, who is defending Dimone "Brenda" Fleming, 22, charged with murdering Canada's 11-month-old son Octavius Canada and his 3-year-old stepson Daishawn Fleming in the bathtub of a homeless shelter, told New York Post on Tuesday that he stands by Fleming.
The distraught father stated, "She is a good person, a good mother," adding that he had not noticed any early warning indications of her losing her mind prior to Saturday's disaster. “I didn’t know any of that because that was not her,” Canada stated, adding, "I forgive her. She was possessed."

According to her father's prior statements to the outlet, Fleming allegedly attacked Canada in a phone call to him hours before the murders, complaining that their connection made her feel "smothered." Canada continued to support the suspected killer, claiming that "all she ever does is worrying and caring" for her children. He stated, "Everybody who knows her knows the kind of person she is. She is a good caring mother." He added, "I know her going on three years, and I’ve never seen anything like that, not even through the doctors, nothing." Fleming, who has been wanted after in connection with a child pornography case stemming from Pennsylvania, was the subject of an investigation by the city's Administration for Children's Services several years ago regarding Daishawn, but that was before Canada met her, the boyfriend claimed.
The children were allegedly viciously stabbed by Dimone, who then dumped their bodies in the bathtub buried beneath a mountain of garments. After the killings, the distraught father, who had adopted Daishawn as his own son, did blame the shelter. "It could have been avoided. They should do their job," Canada said. "They are supposed to make sure families are secured and safe."
The New York Post reported that Penny Singleton, Canada's sister-in-law, claimed that she had offered to keep the infants if Dimone wanted a rest. Singleton, 33, said, "If you knew you were having issues or problems, why didn’t you reach out to somebody? Why didn’t you tell one of us? Why didn’t you explain, ‘Look, I can’t do this right now, somebody help [me].’ Don’t take it out on the kids. That’s the craziest thing you could ever do."
According to Singleton, Canada adopted Daishawn and one other child as his own and had three children total, including two with Singleton's sister. "Columbus loves her. … He still loves her. He is a good person. He forgives her," she stated.
