It's been an overwhelming and heartbreaking week for American football center Ryan Kelly and his family as they mourn the loss of their daughter, Mary Kate.

In an emotional social media post, Kelly, 28, wrote: "Nothing made me happier than being your Dad. You gave your Mom and I that gift. You were simply a miracle and always will be. I'm sorry you never got to open those sweet eyes and see us or take your first steps but you have angel wings now. You left this world too soon but we know God had a bigger purpose for you. Your mom and I find comfort knowing you're being loved on by your great grandparents". "Thank you for watching over us and your future siblings. I'll forever wonder who you'd be today. Until we meet again my sweet girl, I love you." The NFL star also shared a few pictures with his late daughter from the hospital.

Kelly's wife, Emma, also posted on Instagram that she was 19 weeks pregnant or one week halfway through pregnancy when they found out that Mary Kate's heart had stopped. The heartbroken mother wrote: "The pain and brokenness is so unbearable for Ryan and I, we don’t even know where to begin". "These 19 weeks with her opened our hearts and souls more than we ever imagined possible and I'm forever grateful we had some time, earth-side, with the little girl who made us mom and dad."

Emma added, "She was tiny, perfect and incredibly loved from everyone who knew she existed. I don't think we'll ever understand why God decided to call her home when he did but our faith is unshaken. He knows better than we and she was needed back home, in Heaven."

The age-old saying, Life is unpredictable holds true for Kelly and his family. On November 2021, the football center announced the arrival of his little angel with a caption, "Big news this Halloween! Little Kelly coming in 2022! The headline of the poster said, "Ferris Bueller & Sloane Peterson (fictional characters in a movie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off) Present BABY KELLY 2022".

Ryan Kelly has also tweeted about the tragic loss of his baby girl with a caption: "MKK 12/17/2021".

Kelly's fans and well-wishers showed their support to him in this tough time. One fan said, "Heartbreaking news for Ryan Kelly and his wife! Colts Nation is behind them both during this tough time" while another wrote, "My wife and I lost our daughter March 4th of this year, Not a day goes by that we don't think about it. You will never fully heal from this but slowly life gets better again. Im so sorry for you and your wife's loss Ryan."
