Kaepernick reveals release date for his new Nike sneaker, says profits will be donated to organizations fighting systemic oppression
The release date for Colin Kaepernick's much-awaited Nike Air Force 1 sneakers has finally been revealed.
The athlete took to his social media to announce when the new shoes would be released. Kaepernick was seen posing in the shoes along with the caption, "Excited to share this project with you. Drops Monday, Dec. 23rd. #TrueTo7." The shoes will be sold at around $110 for adult sizing while toddler sizes will sell for around $65.
Kids' sizes will be sold at around $75. The shoes are all set to be released in North America at Nike stores, at select retailers and also via the SNKRS app. Kaepernick also shared that he will be donating all the profits to organizations that are against systemic oppression.
He took to Twitter to share, "Great news! @ShoePalace will be donating all profits from the sale of my shoes to organizations fighting systemic oppression. Make sure you go to Shoe Palace and http://ShoePalace.com to get your shoes." The addition of the hashtag #TrueTo7 is a tribute to his former jersey number and is also featured on the shoe.
The Air Force 1 sneakers feature a black suede and leather upper with a gradient black-to-white leather swoosh. There is also an embroidered caricature of Kaepernick onto white leather heel panels along with the 'K' branding on the tongue. On the outsole of the shoe, the date '08 14 16' has been printed and is a reference to the date that Kaepernick first knelt to protest police brutality.
We had previously reported that the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback has not played a single game in the NFL ever since he left the 49ers at the end of the 2016 session, the year he began his controversial protest of kneeling during the national anthem. Kaepernick stirred a national controversy in an effort to protest against reported police brutality against black people in the country. Other players soon took his cue and joined the protest in the 2016 season, while many others have continued the protest till now.
