Cole Sprouse, Cher, Alyssa Milano among celebrities hailing Trump's impeachment by House: 'What a time to be alive'
Donald Trump became the third president in US history to be impeached after a vote in the House of Representatives.
Within a few hours of the vote taking place, many celebrities flocked to social media in order to comment on the historic event. Many celebrities were delighted at the news and rejoiced at Trump's impeachment including the likes of Cole Sprouse who called for a 'celebration' and singer John Legend who encouraged the senate to convict Trump and throw him out of office.
A few other celebrities like Alyssa Milano were a little more solemn and said that the vote wouldn't 'erase' Trump's actions in office. Milano tweeted, "I expected this moment but I expected to be more joyful. Maybe jump up & do a happy dance. Maybe. But I'm just sad and heartbroken."
"What he's left behind can't be erased with this vote. The bigotry and xenophobia he's emboldened. The lies. It will take generations to recover," Milano continued. Singer John Legend who has previously feuded with Trump took to Twitter to share, "Thank you to the House of Representatives for doing your constitutional duty. Everyone please call your senators and tell them to remove this evil man from office."
Jordyn Woods also shared, "What a time to be alive," while Amber Tamblyn wrote, "HAPPY HOLIDAYS, TWITTER." Cher took to Twitter to share, "'IMPEACHED PRESIDENT' donald j.trump, makes RICH RICHER, poor poorer,& Will PURGE MILLIONS Of DEMOCRATS Off VOTING ROLLS. RUSSIA, RUDI, RESTRICTIONS, That’s trumps game plan. For What Does It Profit a Man To Gain The Whole (emoji of the world) Yet Lose His Own Soul."
Trump was formally impeached by the House of Representatives for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress - the two articles of considered by the house for impeachment.
The first one charges him with abuse of power for allegedly pressuring the president of Ukraine to investigate his Democratic rivals while crucial US security aid was being withheld. The second one charges him with obstruction of Congress for stonewalling investigative efforts.
As members of the House discussed and debated over the articles of impeachment, Trump took to ranting on Twitter. He tweeted, "SUCH ATROCIOUS LIES BY THE RADICAL LEFT, DO NOTHING DEMOCRATS. THIS IS AN ASSAULT ON AMERICA, AND AN ASSAULT ON THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!"
