Cole Sprouse's dodgy past resurfaces as he's slammed for 'dressing' like Johnny Depp
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Riverdale' star Cole Sprouse and his girlfriend Ari Fournier caused a stir on social media after photos from a recent themed party went viral.
Cole, 30, frequently grabbed headlines about his love life when he was dating his 'Riverdale' co-star Lili Reinhart. The pair met on the sets of the popular Netflix series and became glued to each other in no time. Fans were understandably devastated when they split, but Cole moved on and is currently dating model Ari Fournier, 24. The new couple, however, shocked the internet when they appeared to dress as Amber Heard and Johnny Depp at a recent party.

Social media reports indicated that model Barbara Palvin, who is dating Cole's brother Dylan Sprouse, hosted her 29th birthday party with a "roaring '20s" theme -- and so the guests, including Cole and Ari, dressed up in glam yet funky characters. According to Koimoi, Cole sported a white t-shirt and complemented it with black pants, a hat, and teeth with braces. His girlfriend, meanwhile, was glammed up and wore an ensemble that looked quite similar to Amber Heard, especially considering the hair and makeup.
Cole and Ari probably had no idea their combined look resembled exes Johnny and Amber, but many on the internet drew their own conclusions and slammed the couple -- with some even bringing up past abuse allegations that Cole has vehemently denied.
"Why would you dress as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard??? A trial about trauma?? Cole Sprouse and his gf are truly disgusting and ugly, but cole has always been trash. don’t forget his abuse allegations," one tweeted.
"It's telling that Cole Sprouse has his own history of violence, including some very credible abuse allegations from an ex-girlfriend in 2013 -- who later even compared him to Depp, saying their fans excuse their toxic behavior. His costume may be more accurate than we realize," another alleged.

A Twitter user -- identified only as "Victoria" -- alleged that Cole sexually assaulted her despite her telling him to stop following a college party in 2013. The anonymous accuser said the assault took place when Cole was a student at New York University. The actor responded to the allegations in a Twitter thread on June 2020, saying he was “falsely accused of sexual offense" and that the details of the claim were "factually untrue." It's worth noting that the accusations against Cole were followed by separate assault and harassment claims against his Riverdale castmates Vanessa Morgan, KJ Apa, and Lili Reinhart, all of whom have strongly denied the allegations.

While some were irked by Cole and Ari's likeness to Johnny and Amber at the party, many rushed to their defense saying they were simply sticking to the roaring 20s party theme. "Cole Sprouse and his girlfriend didn’t dress up like Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. It was a birthday party and it was its theme, the roaring 20s! Everyone else at the party also dressed up the same way! Stop looking for people!" one wrote.
