Chris Rock's mother has spoken out about Will Smith slapping her son at the 2022 Academy Awards. Rose Rock, an author, and a motivational speaker, spoke to WIS-TV in South Carolina about the incident, where Smith approached the stage and smacked Rock after he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head.

"You reacted to your wife giving you the side-eye and you went and made her day because she was mulled over laughing when it happened," Rose Rock said. She claimed that she was watching from home and assumed the event was staged until Smith yelled, "Keep my wife's name out of your f**king mouth." "When he slapped Chris, he slapped all of us. He really slapped me, " the comedian's mother stated. She added that her son was delighted to deliver the prize for Best Documentary Feature to buddy Questlove (though Rock couldn't have known ahead of time that The Roots' drummer would win) and that Smith's actions marred his speech. "No one even heard his speech. No one was able to just be in the moment because everyone was sitting there like, 'What just happened?'," Rose said.

Smith has been barred from the Academy for ten years as a result of his actions. This seems to be fair, according to Rose. "I wouldn't take his award away, and I don't see any good way they could have taken him out without disrupting," she said. Smith issued an apology on Instagram which Rock found unconvincing. Several cinematic projects which Smith was a part of have been halted as a result of the 'slapgate' incident, including a sequel to the actor's 2017 sci-fi action movie 'Bright' directed by David Ayer, that was canceled by Netflix, according to Bloomberg.

Smith was all smiles when he reached India recently, where he was spotted for the first time since the infamous Oscar slap. Smith was photographed landing at a private airport in Mumbai, where he was met by adoring fans with whom he clicked selfies. Smith is apparently in India to meet spiritual teacher Sadhguru, whom Smith and his family visited in Los Angeles in 2020.
