Will Jada and Will Smith ever talk about slapgate? The answer to that question might be yes, at least according to a title card for Jada's Facebook talk show 'Red Table Talk'. The show aired the first episode of its fifth season on April 20, 2022, on Facebook, and opened with a title card that specifically acknowledged Will's infamous slap at the Oscars.

So far, those involved have not directly spoken about the incident. Will Smith apologized on Instagram, but beyond that never said anything about slapgate. Chris Rock too has been silent, saying he would speak about slapgate only after "being paid". The fallout has been swift, with celebrities and internet users calling on Will to be canceled, while others defended him. It eventually led to Will receiving a ban from the Academy, even though he resigned.

The incident has also put the spotlight back on Will and Jada's complex relationship, with many speculating that they could finally be heading for a divorce. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but for now, Jada is still referring to herself as part of the "Smith family."

'Focused on deep healing'

The latest episode of 'Red Table Talk' was reportedly filmed before the Oscars, so obviously there was no way for it to feature a mention of slapgate. Nonetheless, aware that the question would come up, it seems Jada tried to address it in the only way possible — with a title card. "Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focused on deep healing," the card reads.

It adds, "Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls. Until then the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring, and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest." The episode then cuts to a segment featuring Jada, her daughter Willow Smith, and mother Adrienne Banfield Norris. Notably, Will was not present for the first episode.

The move didn't go down well with social media. Users were quick to slam Jada for the gimmick, with people commenting things like "Nobody Cares what Toxic, Race-Baiter & Disrespectful #JadaPinkettSmith Says or Does!" Another said, "Good for them. I'm more worried about #ChrisRock and his daughters." One user mocked, "Oh thank God. I was losing a lot of sleep over this - I will sleep much better tonight. My family has its own challenges. But, it is a relief knowing that the Smith’s are doing better."

"I’m having kebab tonight for iftar, can you please report on that," one person retorted. Another joked, "Chris Rock says his bank account will be healing soon too..." One user slammed, "They couldn’t stay out of the news for long could they?"

To show just how little the net cared, one person replied, "OK but did we ask." Another tweeted, "You mean healing their image so that heals their back account?" A third user panned, "Wonder why there’s the constant need for healing in that family."
