He was one of the most prominent names in the industry and a beloved producer to the ones who worked with him closely. Better known for bringing musicals back to the television, prolific Hollywood producer, Craig Zadan has sadly passed away at the age of 69.

On Tuesday evening, NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt confirmed the news of his untimely passing. According to reports, Zadan, who has steered numerous projects along with his producing partner Neil Meron, died of complications following a recent shoulder replacement surgery at his Hollywood Hills home on Monday, August 20.

“It is with profound sadness that I am announcing the passing of my dear friend and colleague Craig Zadan, who died of complications following shoulder replacement surgery,” a statement from Greenblatt confirmed.

“On behalf of his life partner, Elwood Hopkins, and his producing partner, Neil Meron, we are stunned that the man behind so many incredible films, theatre, and television productions — several of them joyous musicals — was taken away so suddenly. Craig’s distinguished career as a passionate and consummate producer is eclipsed only by his genuine love for the thousands of actors, directors, writers, musicians, designers, and technicians he worked with over the years. His absence will be felt in our hearts and throughout our business."

During their glorious time together, Zadan and Meron have worked on numerous film and TV productions including the big screen iterations of 'Chicago', 'Hairspray', and numerous other NBC love musicals. In addition, the duo was also responsible for at least three Oscar telecasts for ABC between 2013 and 2015.

Since the news of the tragic loss, many stars and celebrities, who had the pleasure of working with Zadan, have taken to social media to express their heartfelt condolences.

"I’m stunned and saddened the unexpected passing of Craig Zadan. He’s been a friend my entire adult life, championed me to host the Oscars, brought musical theatre back to TV. A wonderful, kind spirit. My sincere condolences to his family and his partner, Elwood. #RIP," wrote comedian-turned-actor Neil Patrick Harris.

As Donna Murphy chimed in, "So deeply shocked & saddened to hear this news. Such a passionate & committed man. Love & blessings to his loved ones."
