Comedienne and gun control activist Chelsea Handler has claimed it took a months-long nationwide lockdown for the US to go without a school shooting.

“Last month was the first March without a school shooting in the United States since 2002. It took all schools to be closed and everyone forced to be inside because of a pandemic, but we finally did it,” Handler tweeted.

However, she failed to acknowledge that this happened due to more background checks taking place in March 2020 than anytime on record since the government began implementing them in 1998, Breitbart reports.

According to the outlet, FBI numbers show that a whopping 3,740,688 background checks were conducted in March alone. The report also noted there were no high profile public mass shootings despite the surge in gun sales.

The TV personality has been a gun control advocate for years, even railing against ownership of semi-automatic weapons in 2018.

At the time, the former talk show host admitted to having armed guards around her during a contentious back-and-forth with a Twitter user after they alleged she was a hypocrite for pushing gun control while being surrounded by gun-wielding bodyguards whenever she was out in public.

"You truly are ignorant of our Constitution and what it stands for," Twitter user California Laura tweeted to Handler at the time. "Get rid of your arm guards then you can talk to the MiddleClass about filling safe. It’s children killing children there lies the problem. The home, the schools miss the signs not the Constitution."

In response, the TV host and producer said her "armed guards" weren't "killing children and don’t have semi-automatic weapons."

Handler's response suggested that her bodyguards do not use Glock, Heckler & Koch, Kimber, Ruger, Sig Sauer, or Smith & Wesson pistols, all of which are staples for concealed carry and highly popular among law enforcement officers, according to Breitbart.

Furthermore, the comedian's claims also put AR-15 style rifles out of the picture, which meant her "armed guards" would be carrying bolt action rifles, revolvers, or pump shotguns.

Gun control advocates have railed against semi-automatic firearms ever since the Parkland school shooting in 2018 and the Las Vegas mass shooting the year before that.

Handler, 45, recently grabbed headlines after she stripped naked and posed in a bathtub in order to promote learning and reading books as a record number of people stay indoors due to the coronavirus outbreak in the US.

The actress and TV host posted a picture of herself sitting naked inside a bathtub with three books placed strategically on her body to shield her private parts from view. While she held the first two books close to her breasts, a third book was placed between her parted legs.

In December, Handler, a vocal critic of President Donald J. Trump, urged white women to "think about what it's like to not be them" as they headed into the new year. What's more? She also accused the Trump of inflicting damage on minorities.

"I hope the 53% of white women who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 realize the damage he has caused to people who are not white. I hope in 2020 they can think about what it’s like to not be them," she tweeted on December 30, 2019.

She also shared a link to an article from The Hill, which detailed the results of a Third Way and the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies poll showing that “of the 46 percent of black voters who identify as strong Democrats, 57 percent are more energized to vote in 2020 than they were in 2016.”

And following Trump's 2016 upset victory over the former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, Handler penned an essay declaring that the country has a problem with "women supporting women."

“One of the saddest things about November 8,” she wrote, was “the women of America who somehow managed to vote for Donald Trump, specifically the 53% of all white female voters who chose Mr. Trump. "At least "94% of black women voted for Hillary Clinton because unlike white women, black women don’t take their rights, liberties, or justice for granted,” she added.
