MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: A French man who was living in Brooklyn has reportedly died by suicide after jumping from a luxury Manhattan high-rise building. The person has been identified as Charles-Henry Kurzen and he was reportedly working as a financier. Kurzen had gone to see an apartment with a broker at 100 United Nations Plaza in the Turtle Bay neighborhood when he took his life.

The incident reportedly happened on Thursday, May 26, at around 1:15 pm as he plunged to his death by falling from a 32nd floor balcony. His body fell on a third-floor patio, a police spokesman said. It’s not clear yet why the man took such an extreme step.

The apartment with two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom, floor-to-ceiling windows, solid brass detailing, marble flooring and a separate formal dining room on the 32th-floor was advertised for sale by Corcoran, a real estate agency, for $2.9 million. It also included a walk-in closet, a bathroom with a jacuzzi and the entrance of a second private balcony.

A report by The New York Post stated that Kurzen was Saltbox Partners LLC’s partner. The firm was founded by Nina Eshoo. The company’s website says that the 43-year-old deceased person “has over 14 years of experience in the banking sector and has worked with Nina since moving to New York to start his project finance career at Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank where he was involved in the origination, structuring and execution of 15 financings of over $5 billion. Previously Charles-Henry was an analyst in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Lazard Freres & Co. in Paris.” The French financier reportedly "suddenly jumped off" after asking the agent to show him the apartment's balcony, according to the Post. When asked to comment on the tragedy, a coworker had nothing to say except that Kurzen was a "dear friend."

The site also adds that Kurzen was an alumnus of Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP) Business School and described him as “a true practitioner who enjoys all the intricacies of non-recourse financings, and the challenges of bringing new deal profiles and sponsors to market. His experience has spanned financing coal mining development to the introduction of renewable power in South Africa. In conjunction with Saltbox’s work on Phase 1 of this landmark program, Charles-Henry wrote an article about this long awaited initiative by the South African government.”
