Several celebrities and Hollywood stars have come to the defense of Meghan Markle after she recently spoke out about the upcoming presidential elections in November and encouraged her followers and supporters to vote.

The Duchess of Sussex, 39, had taken part in a virtual 'When All Women Vote' event last Thursday, August 20, and explained why she was so outspoken about the issue. "We vote to honor those who came before us and to protect those who will come after us," she had stressed. "At this juncture, if we aren’t part of the solution, we’re part of the problem. If you’re complacent, you’re complicit. We can make a difference in this election. And we will make the difference in this election."

"I think we’re only 75 days away from Election Day," she continued. "That is so very close, and yet there is so much work to be done in that amount of time. We all know what’s at stake this year. I know it. And all of you certainly know it."

While Meghan did not officially endorse any candidate, speaking about voting still meant it was a break from centuries of British royal tradition that saw members of the family remain apolitical. She had also announced she would be voting in a conversation with Marie Claire alongside 99 other influential women, including Michelle Obama, Gabrielle Union, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Hillary Clinton.

However, she is still a US citizen and had not given up her citizenship following her marriage to Prince Harry. The couple has also stepped down from the royal family, moved out of their Frogmore cottage, and now lives in Santa Barbara, California.

Piers Morgan, a vocal critic of the Duchess of Sussex, had taken particular offense to Meghan's continued advocacy and had called for the Queen to strip her and Harry of their titles. "The Queen must strip the Sussexes of their titles. They can’t remain as royals & spout off about foreign elections in such a brazenly partisan way," he tweeted.

Bette Midler didn't take kindly to Morgan's comments, tweeting, "F*** off," while 'The Wire' creator David Simon wrote, "It’s her country. It’s a moral stand. F*** your royal a**kissery. F*** your rule book."

'The Good Place' star Jameela Jamil also defended Meghan by arguing that the British royal family should focus on the child sexual assault allegations surrounding "pedo" Prince Andrews than someone who was calling for women to vote in her home country.

"I *THINK* they may be more embarrassed by their alleged resident pedo Andrew who was besties with a sex trafficker, than an American supporting women voting in her own country, and loosely referencing the importance of general democracy which is being threatened here currently," the actress wrote.

"Because she’s not white," she added in a reply to a follower who asked why Meghan gets so much hate. "And because she’s smart, strong, opinionated, rebellious, beautiful, happy and has everything they never will. She’s a terrifying threat to patriarchy because she doesn’t fit the stereotype for women. They discredit her because they can’t kill her."
