'CBS Mornings' host Gayle King adds Broadway musical comedy 'Shucked' to her August favorites for Oprah Daily
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'CBS Mornings' host Gayle King is back with her favorite releases of the month in 'The World According to Gayle' segment of Oprah Daily. As an editor, King has been doing this series each month, where she lists exciting releases that readers can look forward to.
For August, a major inclusion in the list made by the 68-year-old host was the Broadway Musical Comedy 'Shucked'. King has previously talked about the musical before and an iconic cast member of 'Shucked', Alex Newell, recently also made an appearance on the morning show.
Gayle King's unending love for 'Shucked'
King already made a visit to the Nederlander Theater back in June to watch 'Shucked' with her son Will. She had shared photos of the day with much excitement as she donned an outfit made perfectly for the musical by coincidence. Her two-piece outfit ended up resembling the bright yellow and green of the musical's poster. King's caption for the Instagram post said, "I swear I did NOT plan for my outfit to match the @shuckedmusical marquee but here we are! this cast this play OUTSTANDING.. Ran into @sarahjessicaparker & @_matthewbroderick they agree! Great weekend w/fav son @willgb3 Juneteenth celebration in central park and BIG brunch.... Fun fun fun!!!!"

"This show is filled with drama humor and great country tunes...This cast, they are the cream of the crop," the host said in the video listing her August favorites, "I guarantee you won't be disappointed."
Alex Newell is praised on 'CBS Mornings'
One of the main cast members of the musical comedy is iconic actor Alex Newell. Known for playing the character 'Unique' on Ryan Murphy's coming-of-age musical series 'Glee', Newell inevitably got the deserved love and recognition in the world of acting through multiple Broadway and TV projects until they landed 'Shucked'. Newell went on to make history when they got nominated for a Tony and eventually won, becoming the only non-binary person to even win one alongside J Harrison Ghee who shared the title with them on the same night.
King couldn't keep herself from sharing her own adoration for the musical and said, "By the time it was over, I said I want to meet everybody in the cast!" She went on to comment, "Number one you think how can a play about corn be so entertaining, so funny and so clever? And it is!"
.@thealexnewell says their historic win at the Tony Awards was “life-affirming,” adding they are learning “so much from playing this strong person” in @Shucked_Musical.
