'Carpool Karaoke' video shows James Corden pretending to drive while crooning on show, fans horrified
If you ever marveled at how James Corden hit those high notes while driving on 'Carpool Karaoke', prepare yourself to be disappointed.
Fans of Corden's popular show were stunned after a video was shared on Twitter showed Corden alongside Justin Bieber filming a segment for 'Carpool Karaoke' in his trademark black Range Rover — which was being towed by a truck. The video was recorded by Twitter user Zoli Honig in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Fox News reports.
“Saw James Corden and Justin Bieber filming carpool karaoke and this is why I have trust issues — he isn’t even driving!” Honig wrote in the caption.
As of Friday morning, the clip has been viewed over 12 million times.
Several of Corden's fans were disappointed that he had deceived his viewers, while some others applauded him for putting safety first.
“Who thought James drove that car the entire time he is talking and singing?” one fan tweeted. “I have seen James' eyes on the road 30% of the times that he is driving. I wondered how he didn’t crash. I actually feel better now.”
“All along I used to respect James Corden for being able to concentrate on driving and singing at the same time," another Twitter user quipped. “But now I feel betrayed. So even the Amigos, Mariah Carey, Michelle Obama and the rest was just a lie.”
The Late Late Show responded to the backlash later on Thursday.
“James always drives during Carpool Karaoke,” the show said in a statement. “However, on the rare occasion when there is a stunt component and the producers feel it is unsafe to drive, we will use a rig.”
Comedian Ricky Gervais made headlines earlier this month after delivering a series of jokes at the expense of a number of Hollywood stars while hosting the Golden Globes this year. That said, one of the jokes was aimed at Corden. “The world got to see James Corden as a fat pussy. He was also in the movie ‘Cats,’” The Office star quipped. “But no one saw that. And the reviews — shocking. I saw one that said this is the worst thing to happen to cats since dogs.”
