Cardi B took aim at homophobia on Twitter in the early hours of January 4. “Every bad bi— have a gay best friend or gay best friend cousin …… If you homophobic you just ugly,” she tweeted.

While Cardi did not specify what prompted her statement, her tweet backfired, with others accusing her of being homophobic and transphobic. "And you really accept the person, not just use them as a cute/fun accessory,"  one person said in response to the rapper's tweet. Another user tweeted, "Girl let’s not act like you didn’t say anything homophobic"

Another person wondered, "Didn’t she make homophobic comments a few years ago??"  According to one reply, "So, we're just going to brush over the fact that she's said the f-slur and the t-slur on multiple occasions? this is no hate towards her but has she's faced any type of repercussion for what she's said and done." "Is this the equivalent of white ppl saying they have a black bestie so they can't be racist," yet another person remarked.

Cardi has yet to comment, although she has previously dismissed homophobic and transphobic claims. Earlier in 2020, Cardi B tweeted, “How the fuvk am I homophobic or transphobic? have you been to a Caribbean island where you really see homophobia! Have you dealt with a parent that can’t accept you for your sexuality? I said some ignorant things b4 that apologized for & educated myself on it don’t mean I’m homo..”

“Ya keep using that same 1 video that I apologize for over & over again to call me homophobic & transphobic 1 but never post about the ones where I support the LGBT community which are multiples and the multiple tweets I posted in support,” she replied in another tweet.

“And I don’t support the LGBT community because I have “gay fans” I support because of the confused feelings I had growing up on is it normal to like girls? I support it because I know how hard it was for my gay cousin to come out to his very strict Dominican family,” Cardi B added.
