LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actor and cable channel exec Candace Cameron Bure, who exited Hallmark in 2021, joining the network’s former CEO Bill Abbott at Great American Family, said that she wants the channel's holiday movies to "tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them" and that she thinks that “Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.”

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal’s Ellen Gamerman, the 46-year-old Bure said, “I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment. I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core. I think we know the core audience and what they love is exactly how Bill originally built the Hallmark Channel. That was Christmas and those traditional holidays, so that’s what the focus is going to be. You’ve got to start somewhere. You can’t do everything at once.”

Bure’s statements of keeping the channel LGBTQ-free to promote more family drama prompted criticism from many online including the 'One Tree Hill and White Collar' actress Hilarie Burton Morgan. She wrote, "Bigot. I don’t remember Jesus liking hypocrites like Candy. But sure. Make your money, honey. You ride that prejudice wave all the way to the bank." JoJo Siwa also called her out on Instagram, saying, “I can’t believe after everything that went down just a few months ago, that she would not only create a movie with intention of excluding LGBTQIA+, but then also talk about it in the press. This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people.”

The bashing continued with one writing, "Candace Cameron Bure you're that girl, we knew you were. Enjoy your straight, white echo chamber, because something tells me people outside of your cult (or under the age of 80) won't be "prioritizing" watching your movies." Another said, "for someone who grew up with 3 dads on tv, candace cameron bure’s homophobia is beyond embarrassing." One more individual wrote, "Currently saddened to learn that Candace Cameron Bure has moved to work with a TV network that calls straight couples the traditional marriage. I no longer support her. Her views on the LGBTQ+ community is sadly anti - Christian. Jesus loved EVERYBODY."
