'Domestic violence doesn’t have a gender': Camille Vasquez REJECTS claims that verdict HURT #MeToo
The stars of Johnny Depp's legal team, attorneys Camille Vasquez and Ben Chew were invited on Good Morning America on Wednesday, June 8, to address the Pirates of the Caribbean star's win in the six-week-long defamation suit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
In an interview with the George Stephanopoulos of Good Morning America, Ben initially told the host that their client was 'over the moon'. And continued saying "It was like the weight of the world had been taken off his shoulder.” Stephanopoulos then asked Vasquez about a statement that was made by one of Heard's spokesperson about the #MeToo movement.

Heard's spokesperson said that the verdict was “setting back decades of how women can be treated in the courtroom.” Another spokesperson said, “As Johnny Depp says he’s ‘moving forward,’ women’s rights are moving backward," in response to Depp's TikTok and “The verdict’s message to victims of domestic violence is…be afraid to stand up and speak out.”

Vasquez took up the issue and said, "The facts, in this case, were overwhelmingly positive for Johnny and the verdict speaks for itself.” She continued, "I think our response to that is we encourage any victim to come forward," she explained as she relentlessly continued to reject the view that this defamation trial has impacted the #MeToo movement. Vasquez added, "Domestic violence doesn’t have a gender.”
While most residents of the United Kingdom asked where they could watch the entire interview, others shared their opinions. One said, "And this is how you conduct a professional interview. Not name calling, blaming the jury, basically like Ben Chew said not taking accountability for your actions because you think you're above everyone. Take notes Elaine..."

Another said, "Elaine’s next day’s interviews were unacceptable, she can’t use alternative facts to make her case. Her team’s defense was just not credible or as organized, as #TeamJohnnyDepp ‘s. #TeamAmber failed badly at controlling their client & sticking to the facts."

After six weeks of testimonies and evidence presented in the Fairfax courtroom, the jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. It was also stated that Heard faced defamation by Depp's former attorney Adam Waldman and was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages by the jury.
