One of the most genuine superstars in the wrestling world, Jonathan Huber, has died on Boxing Day. For World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), his ring name was Luke Harper and in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), his stage name was Brodie Lee. AEW broke the news on Saturday, December 26, with a tribute to the star, saying, “The All Elite Wrestling family is heartbroken.”
“In an industry filled with good people, Jon Huber was exceptionally respected and beloved in every way — a fierce and captivating talent, a thoughtful mentor and simply a very kind soul that starkly contradicted his persona as Brodie Lee,” the statement further read. The cause of death is not known at this time.
From 2003 to 2012, he was popular for his contribution to Chikara, Squared Circle Wrestling (2CW). Back in 2019, Huber bid goodbye to WWE and made his AEW debut in March 2020 calling himself “The Exalted One”. An ESPN article once called his style a mix of “blending power moves with deceptive agility” and “pioneering new wave of athletic giants”.

He was born on December 16, 1979, in Rochester, New York. Did you know the professional wrestler and actor first got into professional wrestling as a backyard wrestler? Performing under the ring name Huberboy #2 with Colin Delaney and his real-life brother, who worked as Huberboy #1, he briefly wrestled in Ring of Honor (ROH) and in Japan for Dragon Gate (DG).
Interestingly, the name Brodie Lee struck his mind for Rochester Pro Wrestling (RPW) in 2003 after watching the movie ‘Mallrats’ as he combined actor Jason Lee's name and the character Brodie Bruce together.
Brodie has quite a close association with Wyatt Family members Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan throughout his career. Dubbed the “Bludgeon Brothers”, they won the NXT Tag Team Championship, the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship and held the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Harper became a one-time WWE Intercontinental Champion during a brief singles run.

Jonathan first locked eyes with Synndy Synn — whose real name is Amanda Huber — during her wrestling career at Independent Circuit. He then exchanged vows with her in 2008 and often expressed his love for her calling her “beautiful, articulate, sexy, amazing, awesome, gorgeous, irreplaceable, patient, amazing, caring, g.o.a.t of a wife”.
The first female Cruiserweight Champion in her training school, she had a proficient wrestling career from 2003 to 2009. Going by reports, she earned around $100,000 from her entire career.
In a heartwarming post, she wrote after his death, “My best friend died today. I never wanted to write out those words. My heart is broken. The world saw him as the amazing @brodielee (fka Luke Harper) but he was my best friend, my husband, and the greatest father you would ever meet. No words can express the love I feel or how broken I am right now. He passed surrounded by love ones after a hard-fought battle with a non-Covid related lung issue. The @mayoclinic is literally the best team of doctors and nurses in the world who surrounded me with constant love.”
In another old post, Amanda wrote, “4 years ago I married my best friend. We've had A LOT of ups and downs over this 12-year ride. I can honestly say that the past 4 years of my life have by far been the happiest and the best. In these bodies we will live, in these bodies, we will die. Where you invest your love, you invest your life.”
A love for the ages
The couple is blessed with two sons — Brodie (born January 2012) and Nolan (born December 2017). They named their first one after Harper's independent wrestling name as he was no longer able to use it in WWE and decided to pass it on to his son.
When Nolan was born, Harper was sent home from SmackDown Live's South American Tour so he could be by his wife's side to witness the birth. Madly in love with each other, they often shared several posts on Instagram showering a bucket of compliments and intimate moments. Amanda once shared a photo of him from the hospital showing the middle finger and captioned it, “He's a charmer. Ready to go here in Birmingham.”
In another, she shared a picture of her son kissing Brodie's forehead and wrote, “Face-timed the dudes and I asked Brodie to give dada some mooches for me since I wasn't there.”
