The 'Baby One More Time' singer reveals in the memoir, as reported by People, that it was her way of rebelling against the scrutiny and pressure she faced since she was a teenager.

“Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back," she added.

The conservatorship also took a toll on her passion for music.

“I would do little bits of creative stuff here and there, but my heart wasn’t in it anymore," she wrote, adding "As far as my passion for singing and dancing, it was almost a joke at that point."

“Thirteen years went by with me feeling like a shadow of myself," she continued.

She compared herself to male artists who never faced such restrictions despite their problems.

“No one tried to take away their control over their bodies and money. I didn’t deserve what my family did to me,” said Britney.

When in 2021, Spears finally got rid of the conservatorship she decided to tell her story in her own words.

“It is finally time for me to raise my voice and speak out, and my fans deserve to hear it directly from me,” she wrote.

She added, “No more conspiracy, no more lies—just me owning my past, present and future.”
