Why did 'Bridge And Tunnel' actor Edward Burns break up with Christie Turlington before their wedding?
Edward Burns's 'Bridge And Tunnel' will hit Epix on January 29. The dramedy revolves around a bunch of college-goers who are trying to make it big in Manhattan. The official synopsis reads: "This dramedy series set in 1980 revolves around a group of college grads setting out to pursue their dreams in Manhattan while still clinging to the familiarity of their working-class Long Island home town." Erica Hernandez has joined the cast in a recurring role. Hernandez will play Genie, the fun-loving and sassy sister of Jimmy (Sam Vartholomeos). She and her best friend Lizzie (Barrett Wilbert Weed) have dreams of making it big with their all-girl punk band, Wildfire.
Burns has written and directed the show. The project, previously titled 'Gibson Station', was part of Epix’s 2020 development slate unveiled in January.
Burns has carved a niche for himself with several films including 'Saving Private Ryan', '15 Minutes' (2001), 'Life or Something Like It' (2002), 'Confidence' (2003), 'A Sound of Thunder' (2005), 'The Holiday' (2006), 'The Groomsmen' (2006), 'One Missed Call' (2008), '27 Dresses' (2008), 'Man on a Ledge' (2012), 'Friends with Kids' (2012) and 'Alex Cross' (2012). He has also directed 'The Brothers McMullen' (1995), 'She's the One' (1996), 'Sidewalks of New York' (2001), 'Purple Violets' (2007) and 'The Fitzgerald Family Christmas' (2012).
While his professional life has created a buzz, his personal life has done the same too. Before his latest show 'Bridge And Tunnel' airs, here's looking back at his relationship with his wife Christie Turlington. Before the two of them got their happy ending, they had to go through some difficult times.
How they met
It was almost love-at-first sight for the pair and things moved very quickly for them. In 2000, Turlington met Burns at a party in the Hamptons, and by the end of the year, they were engaged.
Why did they split?
They were meant to tie the knot in October 2001 but decided to delay it due to the 9/11 terror attacks.
In 2002, just months before they bought a New York property together, they split. According to a 2002 New York Post article, they decided it was best for them to go their 'seperate ways'. Initially, there were rumors of a mysterious third-party entity in their split, but it turns out it was an issue of compatibility and not homewreckers. "They respect each other and care deeply about one another but they decided they weren't each other's perfect life partners," a friend had told New York Post at the time.
Love, however, finds a way, and in 2003 they reconciled and were married. Turlington was 25 weeks pregnant at the time. And now they have two children, Grace and Finn.
Burns's 'Bridge And Tunnel' will air on Epix on January 29 at 9 pm.
