Brad Pitt had reportedly pulled out of the BAFTAs in order to try and mend his relationship with his estranged son Maddox, 18.

The 56-year-old opted out of attending the award show at the last minute due to 'family obligations'. Sources claimed that he had done so to speak to his son whom he shares with his former wife, Angelina Jolie, 44.

As reported by The Sun, a source shared, "Maddox gave Brad the chance to talk and he dropped everything. Being a father is the most important thing in his life and he would do anything to repair their relationship. Maddox has been away at university so when Brad found out he was going to be around and they could have a conversation, he canceled the UK trip."

Ever since Brad and Angelina had an altercation in 2016, Maddox has been estranged from his father. Even though Brad was cleared of any wrongdoing, the reported incident put a lot of strain on their relationship and marriage. Brad also shares Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 13, Vivienne, 11, and Knox, 11, with Angelina.

Brad is hoping to be more involved in his eldest child's life as the teenager continues to study in South Korea. According to Us Weekly, a source revealed, "Brad didn't try to see Maddox. There's been no contact between them. Brad's hopeful that as soon as his son gets older, they'll become close again."

In his absence from the BAFTAs, his co-star, Margot Robbie, read out a speech on his behalf that read, "He says he is going to name this Harry because he is really excited about bringing it back to the States with him." The speech continued to poke some fun at 'Megxit' as she read, "Hey Britain, heard you just became single, welcome to the club."

As the audience reacted to the speech, Robbie said, "His words, not mine."
