The news first started doing the rounds on social media. A tweet by journalist Sudhir Chaudhary read, "SHOCKING: Actor Sushant Singh Rajput commits suicide." An Indian film and TV actor, Rajput started his career with television serials and some of his best performances were in 'PK' (2014) and the biopic on cricket superstar Mahendra Singh Dhoni,  'M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story', for which he received his first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. The actor also starred in films like 'Kedarnath' (2018) and 'Chhichhore' (2019).

This comes a few days after it was reported that his ex-manager, Disha Salian, died after falling off a high-rise in Mumbai’s Malad. 28-year-old Salian's death on June 8 was initially reported as a suicide but later was ruled as a case of accidental death. Sharing the tragic news on his Instagram Stories, Rajput had written then, “It's such a devastating news. My deepest condolences to Disha's family and friends. May your soul rest in peace.”

One fan said, "Common people envy the lives of Bollywood stars. They have money, fame and what not. #SushantSinghRajput's suicide is reminder to us that money and fame are not everything. Mental peace is the most important. Keep your friends and family closer. Seek support without hesitation," and another wrote, "I can't believe this news. I vividly remember our long conversation from my modelling days. He was from my school. It's very sad. Om Shanti."

One tweet read: "A deeply intense guy. All my conversations with #SushantSinghRajput somehow moved towards the purpose of life. “What are we doing here?” He once asked me. “We’ll get the answer sooner or later,” I had said. He should have waited for his answer. A brilliant life gone so soon."

The actor started out with soap operas like 'Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil' and 'Pavitra Rishta' and made his film debut in the 2013 film 'Kai Po Che!'. His last film will be Mukesh Chhabra’s remake of 'The Fault in Our Stars' titled 'Dil Bechara' which was delayed due to the pandemic.
