Bode Miller becomes father to twins a year after daughter drowned in neighbor's pool
Bode and Morgan Miller became parents to identical twin boys on Friday, November 8, over a year after their 19-month-old daughter’s death, calling the delivery "one of the more crazy things" they had experienced. The couple made the happy announcement on the 'Today' show, adding that the babies were yet to be named. "I'm doing really well. We're still floating from the whole experience," Morgan said. "It was just so amazing to have it go as spontaneous but as well as it did."
Explaining it further, the former Olympic skier, 42, said that his wife had asked the midwives to arrive a little later for the home birth as she assumed that there was still time for the arrival of the twins, but that was not the case.
“None of the midwives actually made it on time,” Bode explained. “By the time they got there, me and my mom were both holding the babies. Luckily my mom was a midwife, but she hadn’t delivered babies in 20-plus years and had never delivered twins. We were both pretty relaxed and pretty casual, but we were certainly not qualified to be doing an unassisted home delivery of twins!"
Morgan, 32, also excitedly chimed in, saying that she could not happier. "For Bode to get to deliver his identical twin boys with his mom — it was just pure magic," she said.
Apart from their twins, the couple also has an older son, Nash, 4, and a one-year-old son, Easton. Bode also has a daughter, Dace, 11, and son, Nate, 6, from previous relationships.
Easton, who was born in October 2018, four months after Emmy drowned in a neighbor's pool, helped the couple heal from the loss of a child, they revealed in August, when they first announced that they were having twins. "We carry Emmy with us every day,'' Morgan told Today back then. "That part doesn't ever get easier, but we just imagine what it would be like to have her there, and we share our tears and we share our memories and we revisit stories. Keeping her a part of our family has really made this journey a little bit easier for our family."
