'Black Ink Crew: Chicago': Charmaine's mother dies and Ryan puts difference aside to console her

In this week's episode of 'Black Ink Crew: Chicago' we witness a tragedy that is hard to come out of.
Charmaine received a phone call about her mother's death. She was at her wit's end and was clueless about what to do next. Ryan, with whom she shares a strained relationship, arrived at her doorstep to help her cope with the loss. Amid all the chaos, it's surprising to find Ryan visit Charmaine, extending an olive branch. And that's because they had grown to become sworn enemies over the last few weeks.
Until last year, Ryan and Charmaine shared a unique friendship while she was still employed as a tattoo artist at the former's shop — 9mag. But it all went south when he made Don fire her due to poor working skills and asked her to vacate her position as a celebrity concierge. Ever since Charmaine has been miffed with Ryan for not breaking the news to her directly.
This season opened with Charmaine establishing her own business — 2nd City Ink — a tattoo parlor she set up with Jessica, who is a London-born tattoo artist. But soon her artists were going at each other for a girl who worked at the same shop, with one of them —Fly Tatted — even checking in with Ryan if 9mag had a role for him. Charmaine didn't take very kindly to the news and decided to confront Ryan about it. They had a major showdown that was generously laced with cuss words. The way they left things, it was clear they wouldn't see each other unless they absolutely have to.
Cut to, Ryan consoling Charmaine as she cries her heart out on learning about her mother's death.
It was an inexplicable loss. More so because her mother, Glenda Walker, was extremely excited about Charmaine and Neek's wedding. She had even been to her wedding shopping, helping her pick the perfect dress for the big day. However, she breathed her last on October 23, 2019.
The WGCI radio host even shared an emotional post on Instagram, in which she wrote she has been trying to stay positive amid this personal crisis. “Words can’t express how I feel. I love you mommy and this is going to be hard to move on from. I assume it will get better over time.”
