Billy Chemirmir: Man, 49, who killed 22 women by posing as healthcare worker, gets 2nd conviction

The jurors took less than 30 minutes to convict the accused Billy Chemirmir, who used to steal valuables before killing his victims

DALLAS, TEXAS: An accused serial killer was convicted in less than half an hour for one of the victim's death on Friday, October 7. In January 2018, Billy Chemirmir, 49, who is notorious and infamous for preying on elderly women followed 87-year-old Mary Brooks from a Walmart to her home, said Texas authorities. He was convicted after 27 minutes of jury deliberation. Chemirmir, who was serving life in prison, automatically received another life term without the possibility of parole. 

“We have accomplished what we set out to do,” the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office said Friday, according to Law & Crime. “There is no question that Billy Chemirmir will spend the rest of his life behind bars. We thank the family of Mary Brooks and the family of Mr. Chemirmir’s other alleged victims for putting their faith in this office to ensure justice was done. The pain and loss he has caused will never be erased, but we can all sleep better at night knowing he has, in effect, indeed received a death sentence. Billy Chemirmir will die in the state penitentiary.”

The predator normally used to pose as a maintenance or healthcare worker before entering the homes of his victims. He used to kill helpless women and steal their valuables before getting caught in 2018, when one of his victims, Mary Bartel, 91, survived his attack, only to die later in 2020. Brooks’ and Bartel’s experiences played a key role in putting Chemirmir on trial for the murder of Lu Thi Harris, 81. Prosecutors said that he had Harris’ jewelry, keys, and even $2 bills she would give out as gifts. Prior to the murder of March 20, 2018, Chemirmir and Harris were both at the same Walmart. He was there to follow her, prosecutors said, and he blended in with the rest of the customers. Chemirmir is thought to have taken the lives of at least 22 women. 

“We are pleased with this verdict,” said Dallas County Criminal District Attorney John Creuzot in April. “It is a just verdict and one the families of Lu Thi Harris, Mary Bartel, Mary Brooks, and others have been waiting for.”

A criminal profiler has now provided insight into the description and motive of this killer who is suspected of killing seven people already. Police previously reported that the five killings took place on July 8, August 11, August 30, September 21, and September 27, and then added the murder of a man, 40, and attempted murder of a woman, 46, to the same list. After seeing the CCTV footage made public by the police, the criminal profiler came up with some striking details which also highlight the possible motive of the Stockton serial killer.
