Bijou Phillips takes 'stand by your man' mantra to extremes, has 'no plans to leave him' convicted rapist hubby Danny Masterson
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Danny Masterson's conviction on two counts of rape last Wednesday, May 31, left his wife, Bijou Phillips completely “shocked and devastated”, a source close to the actress informed People. Masterson, best known as Steven Hyde in 'That '70s Show', Milo Foster in 'Men at Work' and Jameson "Rooster" Bennett in 'The Ranch', was convicted by a jury in the Los Angeles Superior Court.
“She wasn’t prepared for the verdict,” the source says. “She never expected him to be found guilty. She couldn’t believe that he was taken into custody right away and remanded.” The source also added that Phillips is terrified of his sentencing.
Bijou Phillips has no plans of leaving Masterson
Following his conviction, Masterson was handcuffed and immediately sent to prison. According to Los Angeles Times, he will be remanded until his next hearing on August 4. He now faces up to three decades to life in prison behind bars. He will be held without bail until he is sentenced. “No matter what happens though, Bijou supports him,” the source says. “She has no plans to leave him.”
Masterson previously pleaded not guilty to all the charges
In 2020, Masterson was charged with forcibly raping three women in separate incidents between 2001 and 2003. He has been out of jail on a $3.3 million bail since his arrest. In January 2021, he pleaded not guilty to all the charges. As per Variety, he was finally convicted on two counts, and the third count resulted in a hung jury. Masterson is incarcerated at the Men's Central Jail in Los Angeles.
Masterson's family was fighting back tears
After his convictions were read, Masterson’s family members were "fighting back tears," the LA Times reported and Phillips also began to cry. Judge Charlaine Olmedo asked Phillips to maintain her serenity at one point. "Can you maintain your composure?” the judge reportedly said. “I know it's hard. But if not, I need you to step outside."
When did Masterson and Phillips get married?
Just like some of his Hollywood peers, Masterson is a celeb Scientologist. Masterson started dating Phillips in 2004 when the two met for the first time at a poker tournament in Las Vegas. The duo got engaged five years later in 2009 before they decided to tie the knot in 2011. The couple gave birth to their only daughter in February 2014.
