There’s a sense of uneasiness in everyone as ‘Better Call Saul’ slowly and steadily inches toward its conclusion. Starting in 2015, the AMC series served as a spin-off series to the blockbuster hit show ‘Breaking Bad’ and primarily focused on the character that went by the name of Saul Goodman. In ‘BB’, he became one of the top lawyers in Albuquerque, but no one knew his story. However, Vince Gilligan thought of expanding the universe with ‘Better Call Saul’ and gave viewers one of the best shows of all time.

In last week’s episode, we finally saw Kim (Rhea Seehorn) and Saul (Bob Odenkirk) talking to each other for the first time after getting divorced. Kim is living in Florida while Saul, who now goes by the name of Gene Takovic, is managing a Cinnabon outlet in Omaha. The former couple has taken divorce, but a phone call from Saul changes everything. Kim returns to Albuquerque and tells everything about Howard’s death to his wife Cheryl. Meanwhile, Saul was inside someone’s house and was trying to steal something. However, police arrived and Jeffy got worried after that. He crashed his cab and was taken away by the police. He called Gene and offered to help, but he told Jeffy’s mother as well. She got suspicious about Gene and got to know his reality. In the end, she called the police and we saw Gene running away.

With only one episode remaining, we can’t wait to see how Saul’s story really ended and if he survived everything that was thrown at him. Before we talk about the last episode, let’s see how the show has managed to enthrall viewers for the last six years and take a look at five of the most nail-biting moments that took place. So, here are out five of the most exhilarating moments from all the seasons.

The Desert Shootout – ‘BAGMAN’ (Season 5, Episode 10)

This scene from the episode ‘Bagman’ is not just one of the best from the AMC series, but also one of the best in television history. Till the time we reached Season 5, we already knew how epic the show really is. But the ‘Desert Shootout’ scene just took the show to a whole new level. So, Saul travels to the desert in retrieving the money for Lalo’s bail. However, he gets caught in a shootout between two parties. The entire five-minute scene made everyone feel anxious and even though we know that Saul doesn’t get killed, things could have gone wrong during that sequence.

It’s a masterfully crafted sequence that makes the show better than most. ‘Bagman’ is one of the highest-rated TV episodes in the show’s history and holds a rating of 9.7 on IMDb.

‘It’s all Good-man’ – ‘WINNER’ (Season 4, Episode 10)

Kim and Saul were known for doing things that were not ordinary and this sequence gave viewers a closer look at how good Bob Odenkirk is. So, Jimmy is trying to get his law license back and talks about how law practice means everything to him. No one knew about it, even Kim. The performance by Jimmy draws tears from Kim as well as one of the judges. He talks about Chuck McGill and tells everyone how he will never be able to be as good as him. However, as soon as the doors of the courtroom open, Jimmy and Kim are happy to know that he has got his license back. But everything changes when Jimmy reveals that he was putting up an act and knew that judges would buy that.

Kim is astounded to see that and the look on her face says it all. The scene ends with Jimmy asking for a form to start his practice with another name and saying, “It’s all (Saul) Good-man”.

It is undoubtedly one of the most hard-hitting sequences on the show and still gives me goosebumps whenever I revisit them.

Chuck’s true feelings about his brother Jimmy – ‘CHICANERY’ (Season 3, Episode 5)

Michael McKean is a brilliant actor and till the time he was on the show, he gave several epic scenes. But nothing comes even close to this mind-blowing courtroom scene. Chuck is inside the court to testify against Jimmy in the latter’s disciplinary hearing for tampering with official documents. So, Jimmy makes a plan and tries to prove that his brother is insane. A few moments later, he actually manages to do that. But the scene is so powerful that it made everyone forced to stand up and applaud McKean.

In the scene, Chuck loses his mind and showed how he truly feels about his brother. As the camera closes in on Chuck’s face, you get to feel how much he despised his brother. A truly amazing scene.

Nacho swaps Hector’s pills – ‘SLIP’ (Season 3, Episode 8)

Nacho died heroically in Season 6, but he has done a lot of mischief in earlier seasons. However, Season 3 saw him doing something really unexpected. So, in the third season, we saw Nacho’s dad also get mixed up in the Salamanca fiasco. In his mind, Nacho knew that if he had to save his father, he needs to pin down the most important member of the family: Hector Salamanca. So, he replaces Hector’s medicines with placebos in an attempt to kill him, and that way, no one would even suspect him.

This scene was so intense that everyone was at the edge of their seats the entire time and when we saw Nacho sweating, we started sweating as well. Michael Mando was extraordinary in that scene and the usage of Spanish music in the background elevates it.

Howard and Lalo’s death – ‘Plan & Execution’ and ‘Point and Shoot’ (Season 6, Episode 7 and 8)

Lalo Salamanca and Howard Hamlin were two of the most intriguing character on ‘Better Call Saul’. They both have a lot of history with the lead character and are menacing in their own ways. In the seventh episode of Season 6, Howard lost everything after he wrongly accuses a judge of taking a bribe. Of course, everything was planted by Saul and Kim, so he confronts them and tells them how they took everything from him. But, viewers got the shock of a lifetime when they saw Lalo entering their house. They told Howard to go away before something catastrophic takes place, but he refuses to do so.

In the end, Lalo shoots Howard in the skull and kills him then and there, making everyone short of breath, including viewers.

If you thought Howard’s death was the most shocking moment in Season 6, then the makers made sure that they surpass everything. In the eighth episode, Lalo tells Saul to meet Gus and kill him. If he doesn’t kill him in one hour, Kim dies. Saul tells Lalo that Kim should do it and he would stay back. Kim gets really emotional at that and leaves the place to do what Lalo said. However, she was unable to do that and Lalo also left shortly. He reached the newly constructed meth lab and killed every guard that was with Gus. We thought that we are seeing the end of Gus, but it couldn’t have been the case because he is the main antagonist in ‘Breaking Bad’.

Gus manages to get away and kill Lalo. It was one of the most spell-binding moments of the ongoing season because we still had 5 episodes to come and killing one of the main antagonists was a bit of a gamble, but the show pulled it so well.

Honorable Mention

Kim steps away from everything – ‘Fun & Games’ (Season 6, Episode 9)

Episode 9 of Season 6 saw Kim showing everyone how much she has changed as a person. The deaths of Howard Hamlin and Lalo Salamanca forced Kim and Saul to do things that they didn’t want to. Mike told them to tell a different story about Howard’s death if the police asked them. However, things take a wild turn when Saul and Kim visit Howard’s wife Cheryl to pay their last respects to Howard. There, Kim stitches a story about Howard being an addict and how she saw him taking drugs. We all knew it was a lie and that made her believe that she is not ready to have a career in law because of the guilt she has inside her.

She leaves her law practice and decides to walk away from her marriage because she feels that she and Saul are “poison” to each other and everyone around them. That was truly the end of an era.
