Bette Midler is receiving a lot of backlash and criticism on social media for her vulgar comments about the First Lady Melania Trump's body. The 72-year-old singer and actress took to Twitter on Thursday and wrote an offensive hashtag along with a picture of the Slovenia born former model.
During her modeling days, Melania Trump had posed for a British GQ spread and was seen in a metallic swimsuit as she flaunted her physique. Midler commented on the shot and wrote, "The dry cleaning bill for the upholstery on Air Force One must be insane. #FLOT*TS".
Midler's comments weren't taken well and she got a lot of negative responses from people of both political affiliations. One user who identifies as a 'liberal feminist' wrote to Midler saying that Melania's past modeling life 'should NOT matter' when it comes to issues involving her and the President of the United States, Donald Trump. The user wrote, "I am tired of seeing people denounce her for having been a nude model, which has nothing to do with her FLOTUS work nor her involvement in this administration. Stay on message!"
Another user added that Midler was totally out of line and wrote, "Now you've moved on to body Shaming? You? Honestly? Is this what you want your daughter to be like as well. Teach her that if you disagree Politically that all bets are off when it comes to how you are as a human being? #Shameful". A user wrote. Loved you in Beaches and Hocus Pocus. Now I'm done. I'm so sorry you have done this. This has nothing to do with politics. It's just wrong".
While another user shared, "No, she doesn't model anymore. Ya know, we fight for women to be able to decide what they do with their bodies, she was a model, but I guess that only applies to women on the left, screw those "other" women right? Don't be such a prude. It's 2018."

Midler is known for being blunt and very outspoken and has also used social media to express her thoughts and opinions on other public figures. In the year 2016, she also mocked reality TV star Kim Kardashian for posting a nude snap online. At the time, she wrote, "Kim Kardashian tweeted a nude selfie today. If Kim wants us to see a part of her we've never seen, she's gonna have to swallow the camera".
To which Kim responded saying, "Hey @BetteMidler I know it's past your bedtime but if you're still up and reading this send nudes #justkidding," after which she added, "Hey @BetteMidler I really didn't want to bring up how you sent me a gift a while back trying to be a fake friend then come at me #dejavu".
Midler has also taken a jab at Ariana Grande and in an interview with 'Telegraph' she said, "You don’t have to make a whore out of yourself to get ahead," to which Ariana responded by saying, "Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgment! not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!! always a fan no matter what my love".
It was only last month when Bette caused another controversy when she decided to quote a 49-year-old John Lennon and Yoko Ono quote which says, "women are the N-word of the world". She had to take to social media to apologize and shared that she did not think it through.
