Actress and singer Bette Midler has admitted that she went too far in mocking First Lady Melania Trump, saying she "can't speak English" and also attacking her husband, President Donald J. Trump. Midler's admission came less than 24 hours after Melania's speech at the Republican National Convention Tuesday night after she called the First Lady an "illegal alien" who "still can't speak English."

"Well, all hell has broken loose because I said Melania 'still can’t speak English' last night," the Hocus Pocus star tweeted on Wednesday afternoon. "I was wrong to make fun of her accent. America is made up of people who speak with all kinds of accents, and they are all welcomed always."

About an hour before her apology, Midler had heavily railed against the RNC. "Woke up ill from all the snake oil poured down our throats last night at the #RNC. What’s the cure? #VoteBidenHarris2020," she tweeted.

While Midler received intense pushback on social media, Melania was applauded for her moving speech, which saw her describe husband Donald as a "man of action" who is "humbled" by his fans.

"#beBest is back! A UGE bore!" Midler tweeted in response to her speech, poking fun at the first lady's public awareness initiative. "She can speak several words in a few languages. Get that illegal alien off the stage!" Midler added.

The Beaches actress also attacked Melania for her recent renovation of the White House's Rose Garden. "Melania took all the color out of the #RoseGarden but Don tried his utmost to bring some back with that greasy bronzer!" she tweeted.

"Why are they promoting this awful person, #melania? Was it in her contract?" the 74-year-old added in another tweet. "She says it feels like just yesterday they were at their first convention. Maybe to you, Mel. For the rest of us, every day has been a horrible slog thru the 9th Circle of Hell. #beBust."

Midler did not stop there. The Big Business star further attacked Melania's Slovenian origins. "Oh, God. She still can’t speak English," the comedienne tweeted.

"I’m surprised Trump wants to destroy the #PostOffice. He got all his wives from it," she said in another tweet.

Midler then said Melania "lacks warmth so severely" that she "had to turn my AC down." She then proceeded to make fun of the relationship shared by the President and First Lady.

"'I have to remind myself that I am very lucky.' I completely agree!" Midler said, quoting Melania. "You are one lucky Slovenian! And after all that surgery, you hit a kind of horrible jackpot, chained to a colossal idiot[sic]."

At the end of the event, Melania and Donald Trump exited the Rose Garden hand in hand. "Please say they are not going to come back. Look, he’s clutching her hand. She’s not going to get away tonight!!" Midler commented.

Midler was branded a "racist" following her anti-Trump diatribe on social media. "Oh, God. Bette Midler’s a racist," British journalist Piers Morgan tweeted.

"Bette Midler is a racist piece of s**t... pass it on," comedian Tim Young tweeted. "How many languages do you speak, Bette? Melania: Slovenian, English, French, Italian, and German," Denver talk show host Ross Kaminsky asked Midler.

Melania heaped praises on her husband and spoke highly of him as he watched her from the audience Tuesday night. She promised Americans that "no matter the amount of negative or false media headlines or attacks from the other side, Donald Trump has not and will not lose focus on you."
