One of the main highlights of the BET Awards 2020 that took place on Sunday, (June 28), was Beyonce being presented with the Humanitarian Award by the former first lady of the United States Michelle Obama. Before bestowing the honor on the ‘Halo' singer, Michelle took a moment to talk about Beyonce’s activism, which has been pivotal in the ‘Black Lives Matter’ moment.

Thanking Beyonce for spreading joy and paving a path for the younger generation, Michelle said, “To my girl, I just want to say, you inspire me. You inspire all of us.” She further states, “Which is why I am so proud to name Beyonce the 2020 BET Awards Humanitarian honorary. Congratulations girls, I love you so much."

After a short video that gave a glimpse of all the humanitarian work that the singer has been involved with, Beyonce herself graced the screen, making the most awaited moment of the evening come true. During her acceptance speech, she dedicated the award “to all my brothers out there, all of my sisters out there inspiring, marching, and fighting for change."

"Your voices are being heard and you're proving to our ancestors that their struggles were not in vain. Now we have one more thing we need to do to walk in our true power—and that is to vote” she stated further.

Emphasizing the importance of taking part in the upcoming elections, she further stated, "I'm encouraging you to continue to take action, continue to change, and dismantle a racist and unequal system. We have to continue to do this together, continue to fight for each other and lift each other up because there are people banking on us staying at home during local elections and primaries happening the States across the country. We have to vote like our life depends on it, because it does. So please continue to be the change you want to see."

Social media users flooded Twitter with posts lauding Beyonce for her inspirational speech and congratulating her on the well-deserved award. “What makes Beyonce a true humanitarian is she’s doing the work without feeling the need to publicize it all the time #BETAwards” wrote one fan.

“Beyoncé is a reminder that work can be done behind the scenes and still have a great impact. Do the work on your own terms. Humanitarian Award was much deserved. #BETAwards” tweeted another.
