SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA: Popular YouTuber Benny Johnson made fun of the US women's national soccer team's iconic player, Megan Rapinoe after the OL Reign winger got hurt and had to be substituted three minutes into the final game of her career.

A probable torn Achilles tendon caused US women's football legend Rapinoe to hobble out of the National Women's Soccer League Final, which her OL Reign club lost to NJ/NY Gotham FC, on Saturday, November 11.

Rapinoe collapsed to the ground, seemingly straining her leg and requiring assistance from trainers. It appears that she stepped on some turf at San Diego's Snapdragon Stadium.

The US soccer legend attempted to play defense after she was hurt, as per the New York Post. Medical personnel attended to an emotional Rapinoe before she exited the game, ending her night and career.

Benny Johnson trolls Megan Rapinoe for her no-contact injury

With over 1.5 million Twitter followers, YouTube star Johnson is famous for his scathing views on American politics and sports.

In the wake of Rapinoe's injury and ending her career's final match, Johnson took to X (formerly Twitter) to make another audacious mockery about the legendary USWNT player.

Addressing the incident, Johnson wrote on X, "The final play of Megan Rapinoe’s career: Randomly falling over on the ground without even being touched. So fitting," with a laughing emoticon.

The audience screamed Rapinoe's name and gave her a standing ovation as she was assisted to the tunnel.

Before leaving, Rapinoe was given a hug by Ali Krieger, a defender for Gotham FC and one of her closest friends who is also competing in her last match.

For days, the NWSL and women's sports media had been hyping up the Krieger-Rapinoe finale, with many fans eager to watch the highly accomplished players square off.

To make matters worse, Lynn Williams' low pass completion in the box gave Gotham the lead early in the game. Rose Lavelle tied the score for the Reign a few minutes later.

Per Daily Mail, Esther Gonzalez of Gotham made it 2-1 just before the half ended.

That was all needed as Gotham FC won their first-ever NWSL championship.

Benny Johnson took aim at Megan Rapinoe during Women's World Cup

However, this is not the first time that Johnson took aim at Rapinoe.

In August 2023, Johnson accused Rapinoe of deliberately playing poorly and missing the game-winning penalty in their loss to Sweden in the Women's World Cup.

Johnson made yet another brazen charge about the legendary USWNT player following Rapinoe's missed penalty in the Women's World Cup Round of 16 match against Sweden.

After extra time ended with no goals scored, the game was forced into a penalty shootout. The penalty shootout ended up being a complete nightmare for Rapinoe and the USWNT.

With her attempt going past the goalpost, the 38-year-old was the first to miss a spot-kick in the shootout.

Johnson responded to the event on Twitter, writing: "No professional “athlete” can suck this hard. At a certain point of disgrace your pride steps in. The coach is forced to bench. I’m now 100% convinced Megan Rapinoe intentionally sabotaged Team USA. Real fans should be enraged."

Netizens echoed in unison with Benny Johnson's trolling attack against Megan Rapinoe

Following Johnson's mocking statement, Internet users flocked to the comment section to launch another set of trolling attacks towards Rapinoe.

One X user wrote, "Always playing the victim," while a second one quipped, "Now she takes a permanent knee."

A third one exclaimed, "Raise your hand if you won’t miss her!"

"A victim to the end. Buh bye," one more said.

Another one typed, "A National disgrace. Good riddance," while one more echoed, "Injury or theatrics? I didn't see it happen."

One more noted, "Maybe they can get back to playing the game now rather than the politics."

Alluding to the no-contact injury, one X user wrote, "She should have waited for contact, would have been a better way to go down."

Another one mockingly suggested, "She will coach. She's going to win coach of the year with a last place team."
