Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner finalize divorce three years after separating
The couple call it quits in 2015 after being together for 10 years. The news arrives just a day after Ben Affleck addressed his latest rehab stint
Three years after separating, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have finalized their divorce.
According to a report by People, the couple met with lawyers and a private judge on Thursday to make things official, one day after Garner, 46, reportedly requested the private judge to handle the final details of the divorce. The couple, who called it quits in June 2015 after 10 years together, were reportedly waiting for Affleck’s most recent rehab stint to end before finalizing their split.
Affleck, who checked into rehab for a 40-day stay in August after Garner helped stage an intervention for him, took to social media on Thursday to finally break his silence and thank supporters.
“The support I have received from my family, colleagues and fans means more to me than I can say. It’s given me the strength and support to speak about my illness with others,” Affleck wrote in the statement, posted to his Instagram.
“Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family.”
Garner and Affleck have continued to spend time as a family and co-parent after they officially filed for divorce almost two years after announcing their separation in 2015 and according to People, the couple will share custody of their three children Violet, 12, Seraphina, 9, and Samuel, 6.
Around a month ago, Affleck agreed to go to rehab after Garner staged an intervention for him.
According to TMZ, the 46-year-old Oscar-winner agreed to undergo professional treatment after Garner begged him to get help at his Pacific Palisades home. It was also reported that Ben didn't need the pleading, as he already knew that he needed help and was responsive to Garner's request.
The 'Gone Girl' actor then checked into The Canyon live-in rehab facility, in Malibu.
