Trae Tha Truth has been one of the most influential names in the music industry since his debut in 1998. The rapper has given several hits during his illustrious career and always tried to bring something new with his music. Apart from being a musician, Trae has also been a philanthropist and helped hundreds and thousands of people in their difficult times.

The musician will be receiving the Change Maker Award at this year’s Billboard Music Awards for all the humanitarian work he has done in recent years. According to Billboard, the award pays tribute to the artist or group that speaks truth to power through their music, celebrity and community. Early life and musical career

Born on July 3, 1980, in Houston, Texas, Frazier Othel Thompson better known by his stage name Trae Tha Truth, made his rapping debut with a guest appearance on Zo R’s album ‘Look What You did to Me’ in 1998. The rapper performed at various venues for five years and began his solo career in 2003 with the album ‘Losing Composure’.

In 2004, he came out with his second studio album ‘Same Thing Different Day’. The album turned out to be really successful and peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart. He continued to achieve a lot of success through his music and his next two albums – ‘Restless’ and ‘Life Goes On’ – went on to become two of his most successful musical ventures.

‘Restless’ peaked at number 9 on Billboard while ‘Life Goes On’ peaked at number 7 on Billboard Top Rap Albums chart. His most recent albums were the 2015 ‘Tha Truth’ and the 2016 ‘Tha Truth Pt.2’. The rapper has produced 11 studio albums over the years and worked with artists like Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Busta Rhymes, D-Drew, Tony Montana, B.o.B, Future, French Montana, and Nelly, T.I on numerous occasions.

He is currently signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle Records, where he was given the title of vice president in 2017.

Philanthropy

Besides making his name in the entertainment industry, Trae has been using his fame for good. The rapper has helped so many underprivileged children and families in various ways to brighten up their lives. The rapper founded a non-profit organization called ABN (Angel by Nature), which opened a children’s emergency shelter in Houston in 2011.

In 2019, the musician heard about a family losing everything after a fire caused damage to their house and forced them to relocate just weeks away from Christmas. As soon as he heard about the news, came through and surprised the eight children with dozens of gifts including toys, gift cards, and a stereo.

Meanwhile, in June 2020, the rapper organized a march for George Floyd’s family in Houston.  The event was specifically organized for the family to have their own march and tell the world how they felt after the horrific incident. A few months later, Trae and his charitable organization, Relief Gang, handed out 200 jackets, hats, and masks to the homeless in downtown Houston the day after Thanksgiving.

Earlier this year, the rapper also helped fellow Houstonians during the winter storm and rented out an entire gas station for the families in need. Initially, he provided free gas to 250 families but later he announced that he decided to help 150 more families with the essential item.

Business ventures

Trae is also the co-founder and managing partner of BumpBoxx. Bumpboxx is the largest, loudest Bluetooth-enabled boombox. The company claims that its products bring back the nostalgic feel of the original Boombox, accompanied by great sound, deep bass, and piercing highs.  According to dnb.com, the company has a total of nine employees across all of its locations and generates $1.49 million in sales.

Honors 

The rapper received a special honor from former Mayor of Houston Bill White in 2008. The mayor recognized the extraordinary work done by the musician within the community and rewarded him with his own holiday called Trae Day. However, Trae uses the occasion to help the people of Houston, especially children, and give them all the essential things to lead a comfortable life. All the things provided by him are self-funded.

Controversies

In 2009, Trae landed himself in a controversy after an annual Trae Day had ended with a horrifying incident of a mass shooting. According to reports, eight people were shot at the Texas Southern University campus. However, the controversy erupted after a member of radio station KBXX accused the rapper and asserted that his music played a role in causing violence at the festival. As a result, the management banned his music from their station.

The rapper later filed a lawsuit against the radio.

According to the Celebrity Net Worth, Trae the Truth’s net worth is $400,000. Most of his earnings come from his successful run in the music industry. There is no information about the remuneration he receives after becoming the vice president of Grand Hustle Records.
