Barnaby Joyce: Amber Heard names puppy after Aussie Dy PM who threatened to kill her dogs

Amber Heard and her ex Johnny Depp had a not-so-pleasant encounter with the Australian politician back in 2015 and Heard is now exacting revenge

Amber Heard has taken her feud with Australia's Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce to another level by naming her new puppy after him. On Monday, December 27, the 'Aquaman' actress excitedly revealed the news on Instagram, alongside a photo and a video of herself with the cute puppy. "Meet the newest member of the Heard family, Barnaby Joyce," the 35-year-old actress wrote as a caption to the post.

The name was a conscious choice on part of Heard. She and her ex-boyfriend, Johnny Depp, 58, had a not-so-pleasant encounter with the Australian politician back in 2015 after the pair were accused of illegally transporting their dogs into Joyce's country.

What happened in 2015?

Back in April 2015, Depp and Heard flew their Yorkshire Terriers, Pistol and Boo, into Australia, where the former was filming 'Pirates of the Caribbean.' According to reports, the then-couple violated Australia's bio-security laws as they failed to declare and quarantine them on their visit to the country. In fact, it was only after their visit to a Gold Coast dog grooming salon — made public on Facebook — that the Australian authorities came to know that Depp and Heard had brought their pet dogs along with them. 

Joyce, at the time, raged at the couple, demanding that the dogs would be put down if they were not sent home to the US. "If we start letting movie stars - even though they've been the sexiest man alive twice - to come into our nation [and break the laws], then why don't we just break the laws for everybody," he said during an infamous press conference. "It's time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States."

The dogs were promptly sent home and a year later, Depp insulted Joyce by saying during his appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' that the lawmaker looked like 'Barnaby Jones.'

"He looks somehow, like, inbred with a tomato. It's not a criticism. I was a little worried. He might explode," said the Hollywood actor. Joyce replied with a curt: "I think I'm turning into Johnny Depp's Hannibal Lecter. I'm inside his head, I'm pulling little strings and pulling little levers. Long after I've forgotten about Mr Depp, he's remembering me."

'Put Barnaby Joyce on a leash'

After Heard was charged with breaching Australian customs laws, she and Depp issued a bizarre video apology. The charges were later dropped. "Australia is free of many pests and diseases that are commonplace around the world. That is why Australia has to have such strong biosecurity laws," Heard said in the apology. 

After Heard posted the picture of puppy Joyce on Twitter, fans flocked in the comments section to laud her name choice for the puppy. "I can’t! Needed that laugh at work today! What a beautiful dog too!" one of them said, while another commented, "My gosh!! Is him the guardian of the rabies shots? I feel that name would fit him if that were the case Such a huge doggo Barnaby... never forgotten." A third noted, "Already a way better individual than the real one!" One more wrote, "BAHAHAHAHA THAT'S EPIC!!! I think the human version of him will appreciate your tribute anyway! I hope for you in any case that he will not share the same 'tendency' for sexual harassment! Welcome home Barnaby Joyce Heard" A commenter tweeted, "Can't wait for her to say she put Barnaby Joyce on a leash."
