HOUSTON, TEXAS: According to a source, August Alsina found Chris Rock's jokes on his recent Netflix special to be both humorous and truthful. Alsina apparently watched the special and laughed, feeling that the best part of it was its honesty. Rock used his special, titled 'Selective Outrage,' to finally discuss being slapped by Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars, suggesting that Smith may have been releasing pent-up anger over Alsina's affair with Jada Pinkett Smith. 'Will Smith practices selective outrage,' Rock said, giving a nod to the special's title.

Rock commented on the show that Smith had hit him, despite being someone Smith knew he could beat, and criticized Smith's reaction as "b****-a** shit." The source cited by The New York Post, noted that Alsina was pleased to see Rock standing up for the truth and not just making jokes. “August watched the Netflix special and he laughed,” they told The Post, adding, “He thought it was not only funny but truthful. That was the best part for him.” During the special, Rock also made comments about Jada Pinkett Smith's affair with Alsina, stating that "his wife was f*****g her son's friend." Rock previously addressed the incident at a Madison Square Garden show in 2022, where he joked about it.

'Selective Outrage': Chris Rock to use Netflix special to attack Will Smith for infamous Oscars slapgate

The infamous Oscars slap

At the 94th Academy Awards, Rock made a joke about Pinkett-Smith's bald head, referencing the film 'GI Jane', which fell flat with Smith initially laughing along with the audience. However, Pinkett-Smith, who has been vocal about her struggles with hair loss and alopecia, visibly rolled her eyes and looked angry. Rock defended his joke as a mild one, but moments later, Smith stormed the stage and promptly slapped Rock across the face. In uncensored footage, Smith was heard saying, "Keep my wife's name out your f***king mouth." Later, during his acceptance speech for Best Actor, Smith emotionally defended his actions, citing the impact of the joke on Pinkett Smith, who suffers from a medical condition that causes hair loss.

What is the Relationship History between Alsina and Pinkett Smith?

Alsina and Jada Pinkett Smith first met at the Wire Festival in London in 2015, where the Smiths' children, Willow and Jaden, were performing. The two became friends, with Alsina even joining the Smith family on vacation in Hawaii in the following year. Rumors of a romantic relationship between the two began to circulate after they were photographed looking cozy at the 2017 BET Awards.

In June 2020, Alsina spoke to Angela Yee, host of 'The Breakfast Club,' and revealed that he had talked to Will Smith and received his approval due to the "transformation from [the Smiths'] marriage to life partnership." A few days later, Pinkett Smith confirmed the 'entanglement' during an episode of her Facebook Watch show, 'Red Table Talk,' explaining to her husband that it wasn't a "transgression" as they were on a break at the time. Despite the controversy, Jada and Will have worked on their relationship and have achieved a "new place of unconditional love."

Comedians rally behind Chris Rock

A number of comedians have shown support for Rock after he received criticism for his jokes about Smith and Jada Pinkett in his recent stand-up special. Bill Bellamy defended Rock's right to make jokes about Smith, stating on TMZ Live, "It was a personal thing that happened to him. I don't think he was being malicious, he was just pushing the envelope." Jeff Dye also voiced his support, adding, "Anyone who is upset for Chris Rock doing jokes is insane... they should be lucky he didn't press charges and then drop a special."

Comedian Jeff Ross echoed Dye's sentiments, replying, "Amen brother," while actor Dondre Whitfield called out the hypocrisy of those who were offended, stating, "All those people who say that are hypocrites. Because if the shoe were on the slapped face they’d STILL be talking about. And probably would’ve been seeking compensation as well. All those people need to shut up." Patton Oswalt took to Twitter to express his admiration for Rock, writing, "So happy having @chrisrock in the world, for so many reasons. Maybe one of the best being as a constant high bar to shoot for in terms of writing, thought & performance. Wow." Jim Gaffigan also tweeted his support, stating, "Like most comedians I’m continuously grateful for the existence of Chris Rock. Thank you comedy gods."
